DA2 Pre-Installed for the 8th. Cannot select "High Res Textures"....

Hi,

I'm guessing this might be premature but since the game is installed and just waiting for the release date check, I figured I'd setup what I can beforehand.

I noticed in the Video options of the configuration tool that "High resolution textures" cannot be selected (greyed out) and within this greyed out  box, it says "disabled".

Something to worry about?

My card is a GTX 580.

Other than that, can't wait 'till the 8th (or 10th if I read SecuRom correctly -- sure hope it's the 8th though)

Regards,

R.

P.S. Did search on high res textures and couldn't find anything (not sure the search is working on my setup -- FF beta with NoScript although I allow this website).

I have read that there will be a separate download for high res textures for PC users. So perhaps that stays grayed out until you make the extra download. But that's just a guess based on a memory--nothing certain.

Same thing here. I got it from Impulse and the install was only 5 gigs... how about you? I heard of other people with 6.5 gig installs. I dunno what's going on.

I've never seen anything remotely pointing to that situation.

If that's the case, makes me wonder why they didn't include them directly in the digital versions.

Well.. as long as we can download the extras (High Res Texture if that's how you say, signature stuff, the demo stuff etc) automatically from within the game, then I'm Ok with it ;)

Once you are done, check the config utility and see if it lets you select high res textures.

I vaguely recall hearing that's for DX11 only.

I'm curious, could one of you check if the graphic options are the same as in the demo ? Is there an option to check frame buffer effects off like in the original game ? Thanks in advance.

@Bendok, same thing here... if I do properties for the DA2 folder, I get 5.18 GB- 5,19GB used on disk.

If some people have 6.5GB (1.3 GB more then we got), it *might* be the Signature stuff, but I'm not too worried about that since, *I think*, with the key they gave us, it should download automatically the missing items once we can log in with the game.

If you look at near the end of the EMail (just above the price) you got today, it does mention Signature Edition [Pre-Order]... it does on mine.

Regards,

R

@ Melk, yes mine is a signature edition. In fact when I launch the game it gives a pop up with the signature edition DLC code. The DLC has to be downloaded in game.

Here's a screenshot of the graphics options. I have a GTX 570 btw

I compared the "Video" section of the configuration tool (demo and full game) and it's the same except that the full game has "High resolution textures" -- which cannot be selected (even when I select DirectX 11 -- Card is GTX 580).

I'll try with the new drivers they made (beta) which increase the compatibility with DA2 soon.

Thanks Bendok, seem to be the same options as those featured in the demo.

@Bendok,

Hmmm, I'm not sure what you mean by the pop up with the Signature Edition DLC Code.

I remember it DID ask me for the code when the game installed itself, but I can't recall if there was a mention of the Signature Edition or not.

Since it's *not* asking me the code again, I can't confirm :/ But now everytime I lauch the game, get the launcher, then a Sony (securom I assume) popup to check the release date and that's it.

Can you post an image of the pop up in question? Thx in advance...

R

P.S. checked your image.. we have almost the same setup (I chose 8x AA) and we both can't selec the high res textures.

Wow.. thanks for this man! I didn't realize there were TWO activation codes. I figured the one I entered when I installed the game was the only one I needed. Glad you showed me where to get it .

I also have the Signature Ed. I just never started the game through Impulse so I wouldn't have seen it but for your help.

Again, thanks! Much appreciated :)

Regards,

R

P.S. btw, is there a manual somewhere for the impulse digital version? (or any other digital versions for that matter). Can't seem to find it within the DA2 folder.

Strange that texture packages in full game have the same size like in demo. It's 53.7 for medim and high. And the game weights 5.2 GB instead of 6.6. The game was downloaded with EADM btw.

So confusing..I hope we don't have another game of bad textures :(

Do you have DX11 installed?

I just did a file compare for both medium & high texture packs... they`re both the same. <sigh>.

Starting to wonder if some digital versions weren't quite the gold version they should have been.

I have to admit that I'm not sure what those packs are used for (there's a lot of texture packs in the core directory)

sweet, thanks for the quick reply Fernando.

Am I right to assume it'll be automatically downloaded by the game? or will we have to do it manually?

It'll be a manual download - you will be able to grab it here on the site similar to a patch for DAO.  It will come with its own installer etc.

Also worth noting that there are new ATI and nVidia drivers due Monday (or Tuesday) I believe, which will increase performance and stability for DA2 on DirectX11 cards.
