Hi,

I'm guessing this might be premature but since the game is installed and just waiting for the release date check, I figured I'd setup what I can beforehand.

I noticed in the Video options of the configuration tool that "High resolution textures" cannot be selected (greyed out) and within this greyed out  box, it says "disabled".

Something to worry about?

My card is a GTX 580.

Other than that, can't wait 'till the 8th (or 10th if I read SecuRom correctly -- sure hope it's the 8th though)

Regards,

R.

P.S. Did search on high res textures and couldn't find anything (not sure the search is working on my setup -- FF beta with NoScript although I allow this website).

u shouldnt be able to select anything. All digital downloads are encrypted and no one should have the disks yet. So I don't see how u can or can't select anything. You should not be able to even run the game or even the config program

the only think that should be working is the DEMO.. and the adv dx11 deatures are disabled in it.. hence why u can't choose VERY HIGH

I can run on max (well, medium cause I don't have DX11) settings with everything up with no frame issues, 0 lag, etc. Hopefully the textures don't slow it down too much.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for telling us what we shouldn't be able to select, but I've got some very bad news for you, we can all access the config program. I've got mine set, too, just can't play until the proper date.

rev up those downloads, because I sure am hungry

.... for some high res textures ^_^. Steam pre-loading is bliss!! Not having tax is equally as awesome, too.

Also, other than the fact that it's a Day 1 texture pack, the most important thing is how Steam is going to react to it; given so many people like Steam for its auto downloading of official updates, it's not exactly a decent way to treat your fanbase on Steam.

Well the DLC was only here, I'm sure people can handle the texture pack only being here if that's how it plays out.  I don't think it's disrespect at all, since DA2 is not a Steamworks game and thus Steam is just a method of procuring the game, not a full-on service platform for the game.

So the high-res textures are only usable for people who have DX11 cards?

No textures are not tied to DX version.

Perhaps this is a silly question, how are textures made? Don't you make the full resolution texture first, then reduce it in size?

Yeah, but don't you usually just create the highest resolution master textures then downsample them into the lower res brackets? Otherwise you're making your art team do way more work than they should.

I've wondered that as well capable heart. I would have assumed hi res textures would always be ready and not needed to complete after the game's gone to press, but I guess there must be more to it. Anyone know the answer? And for the record, I dont mind one bit they didnt come with the dl or disc, I'm just happy to have them unlike ME2.

Western Europe here, realy REALY hope they didn't screw up my signature edition on the EA download manager.
Got the confirmation e-mail when i pre-ordered it but my creditcard hasnt been charged as of yet.
guess i just have to wait and see, a hour and a half left.
Presses nose against the screen waiting for the preload e-mail.

Textures are dependant on the limits of hardware and software, so basically the game engine, direct3d and the graphics card. D3D does have a limitation to texture size, and it has increased with D3D11 from 8K (D3D10) to 16K afaik. And GPUs mostly follow the D3D limit afaik (my 6950 has 16K limit). But this is mostly irrelevant since I think the engine might be limited to 4K textures. Considering consoles run at 720p at best the resolutions used are mostly far below that. So theoretically there might be a limitation if they were to use 4K+ textures but I don't see that happening.

Anyone know where you would possibly find the texture pack when its released? Since I do not yet have my CD key to register the game, I am wondering where I can find the download location for it.

Also regarding these nvidia drivers. You think they will be beta drivers or a proper release ? In any case I am still going to get them, I want the best performance on this game.

Quick guess: The texture pack will either appear on "Your registered game content" page or on a not yet available webpage here like the "Dragon Age: Origins patches" subsite.

The new Nvidia drivers will probably be beta but maybe it's a WHQL since the 267.24 beta drivers already contained some fixes for DA2.

So either way it'll be an interesting Monday.
