Why didn't you just put it on the disc?

Probably because they didn't finish them until after the game was sealed.

Yep, same reason day 1 DLC isn't on the disc.  This is all content we were able to complete after the game disc was locked and sent for certification.

Um... are you saying this stuff isn't on the DVD you get from physical store? As in the physical disc?

I'm confused...

*Sigh* I've got a GTX 460, but I'm still running WinXP SP3. I guess its time for an OS update. <_<

I use Windows 7 and it's totally worth the upgrade! I remember how great Windows XP was when compared to Windows 95/98. Well, Windows 7 is like that when compared to Windows XP. (Of course, this is my personal opinion.)

I was diehard XP then I tried the Windows 7 beta and RC, fell in love. Then my college started selling Windows 7 Ultimate for 10 bucks to students. Feels good man.

Correct. The physical disc (as well as the digital download) does not have the high res textures and it does not have the day 1 DLC.

I don't care for the DLC part, but what the hell is this crap about the high-rez not being on the disc?!

Because as said the game is console-centric. Any goods for the PC were put on the backburner as the PC audience is smaller and less important.

Hm... I wonder if a voodoo doll actually works...

What the heck was it with the "BioWare is proud to annouce that the game went GOLD today"?

THIS IS WONDERFUL!

We can thank the console-centric design of DA2 for our lovely "optional high-res textures".

Consoles can't use them, they are stuck with DX9 and Medium settings, never to get anything better. But of course because of this, PC textures get put on the back burner, only to be released a week after release... **** is bloody lame.

Also who wants to bet some young modder will blow away Biowares "high-res" textures?

The textures are being released the same week as the release of the game. Hyperbole much?

I interpretted the "next week" to be the week after release. Otherwise why not just say "A day before release"?

We will be releasing the high res texture pack next week (Monday I believe).

I took this to mean Monday the 7th. Is that correct?

@ Gabriel
uh, did you read the dev-posts in this Thread? The High-Res-Textures weren't finished in time to be put on the disc. Seriously, they don't HAVE to give us these Textures, they could sell them separately. Or as part of a Special Edition in 3 Months. Would you have preferred it if they pushed the release date back a few months, just because of Textures?

@ Lennonkun
"A day before release" doesn't work with different release dates ;)

Sure, just like we don't HAVE to buy the game but it's the right move.  If you're not going to take advantage of PC's superior hardware, stop releasing PC games.  Also, I'd much prefer a game getting delayed instead of, not Bioware in particular, the usual stance of "screw it, release it and we'll possibly patch it later."

Yes, and they ARE giving us these textures. As far as we know, in time for the game release/unlock. So i don't really see the problem. I have the sig-Edition pre-ordered, so once i have the game, i will have to download the Bonus Content anyway. Now i have to download the Textures as well. Big deal.

DX11 support check
high textures check

Yeah it just a direct port from the console it doesn't even allow DX10. <_<

Well now...

If those things ARE NOT on the disc you purchase does that not qualify as a direct port?

I am pretty sick of this rent-a-game cowdung.

Ah, yes "PC gaming".We've dismissed that claim.

It's a nice gesture they add extra textures, don't get me wrong. But it doesn't take away the fact that console version has no DRM and we have to bear with SecuROM. (Which has problems setting timezones properly, btw.)

You are really crying over spillt milk, the DX11/DX10 support is on the disc. SO you have to set aside 10-30 mins of your life to download high textures. Big whoop.  Or you know you could just ignore the download.

Let's hope so and it is appreciated, don't get me wrong.  I'm just hoping the download process isn't as painful as downloading the demo or using the Bioware store.

There is no securom on the disk did you not read the DRM faq or just pulling things out of your butt? I am going for the latter. And changing time zones is stupidly easily. Go ahead make another wild claim. Its saturday, when its Monday at 11:59pm and the Release check says Tuesday the 8th at 1800 then whine and moan it was horribly implemented.

Actually I just sent an e-mail to the store I pre-ordered from, cancelled it. That is how 'whiny' I am. Meh... I'll get the game from a friend eventually.

This is just my little prickly stand. :)

So boohoo, ya know. ^_^

Also worth noting that there are new ATI and nVidia drivers due Monday (or Tuesday) I believe, which will increase performance and stability for DA2 on DirectX11 cards.

Woot!

For Steam, is it going to be a manual download? I cant remember if Steam doesnt you tampering with the core files...

No-one answered this question yet I assume it will download from Steam.
