I'm wondering how the steam users get this textures? Will it automaticly download them?
Maybe you will download them from here like me and all the other purchasers will, or Bioware might treat it like a patch and submit it to Valve. Does it really matter that much? Either way you can get them easily.

I don't know why BW didn't just create hih res textures to begin with and then shrink them to fit what consoles can use rather then make low res textures and have to go back and make high res ones.Johnsen1972 wrote...
I really hope its not just sharpened textures like the JB mod does for DAO
Better IMHO to start with a 4096x4096 res texture and then make it smaller to fit where its needed. Hopefully this isn't like ME2 where the female textures where half the size of the male textures.

JB is such crap. Those textures were originally called HDtextures, he changed the name because people realized they weren't actually hi-res.
If someone pulls that crap again they can expect a whole lot of negatives.

Also worth noting that there are new ATI and nVidia drivers due Monday (or Tuesday) I believe, which will increase performance and stability for DA2 on DirectX11 cards.
Please tell me the High Res pack isn't DLC?

Downloadable content isn't always free. This is a relief.

Depends on your internet subscription. If it's a capped one, you'll be paying for every MB above the cap. Also, the electricity costs of downloading. Not very much, but still...
You must be kidding?
Nothing funny about it from where I sit. I live in a remote area where wireless internet is my only option. Downloading this texture pack is going to add $40 a gb to the cost of this game. Yeah....ha ha ha. <_<

It'll be a manual download - you will be able to grab it here on the site similar to a patch for DAO. It will come with its own installer etc.
Fernando, is there any chance that the hi-res textures update will be added to the Steam version as an automatic update? It would be trivial to do so, and would ensure that Steam users (who are used to NOT having to manually install updates) would get the full PC quality experience.
I know EA hates Steam; please let's have Bioware show some love for it

I remember times, when it was rightful part of teh game and no one forced gamers to pay for it. Those were times of respect and happiness. Now, only greedy bastards around here.
And ofc it's PC gamers community fault. Hello, EA.

Not really in order for the game to be able to be release on the 360 and PS3 at the same time it has to undergo a certification process which takes alot of time I am told. If they held off and locked the game after the Hi-res was avalible your looking at way more then 3 weeks for a delay as the certifications would still need to be madeNighteye2 wrote...
Me, neither. But they could've slightly delayed the release to put it on the disc, instead of letting everyone download it. 3 weeks would've been enough to include the texture patch on the disc.DTKT wrote...
If you have a 2GB monthly limit, then it's bad luck but I dont want to see devs limiting content because of such contstraints. If you dont have the bandwith, dont download it.Nighteye2 wrote...
Unfortunately not. Some of the cheaper providers charge people extra if they exceed a monthly limit, usually around 2GB. If the hi-res texture package is bigger than that, it will cause those people to exceed their limit and having to pay more to their ISP.DTKT wrote...

So doing this would have ment that the Consoles would ethier have a later release then the PC at that point or they would need to delay the PC release date
Not really - the consoles cannot handle the high-res textures anyway, so it would make no difference for those. And if you include the high-res textures as a patch on the disc, instead of integrating them into the installer, it would make no difference for testing and other activities, either.

There is more to it than just the inconvenience of having to download it, for some people - as I have pointed out and is supported by other posters in this thread:

I call that bad customer service. One of the reasons for people to buy the game on a disc in the store is because of their internet connection. It is not too much to ask to expect a complete game on that disc. <_<

I hear in Canada they can actually pay expenses with the warm feeling they get for giving gamers something cool at no cost.

Furthermore why is not on the DVD in the first place?
A pack like this will certainly be several gigabyte to download (guessing 2-4GB?!) and I am on an traffic volume plan with my internet provider here cause no other tech is available (DSL or cable) so I will have to PAY for more traffic
