Now that we are able to download the manual, at least with the EADM, I can make hyberbolic comments of the quality of it.

In one word: quite terrible. I know that is two words, but I cannot express my disappoint, in civil discourse, in one. I know this is a theme with those who are labeled "trolls", "whiners" and "naysayers", but man, this thing looks like a manual for a console game.

Poor show Bioware, poor show indeed.

Console games have crappy manuals???

As far as I can see my PC manuals look exactly the same as my 360 manuals.

I guess an example of why it's "quite terrible" would be to much to ask for?

The Origins and Awakening manuals were nothing special. Since I can't see this one yet - how is it worse?

Publishers have been underestimating the importance of packaging and manuals for new game purchases for a while now.

Absolutely none. It tells you what your stats do, what the classes are, your starting stats by class, and then a bunch of useless stuff like how to start combat.

Nothing about your specializations (except when you can unlock them).

I assume manuals getting worse and worse over the years is a nod to driving business to game guides.

Thank goodness I'm not buying the game to read the manual then.

DA2 was pretty much made for consoles this time, not for PCs.

When was the last time you got a good enclosed manual with a game? Mostly you have to pay for something that does more than tell you the keyboard shortcuts.

Asking a troll/naysayer/whiner to justify their opinion with actual evidence? Pretty ballsy of you... ;)

400 page manuals are a thing of the past, regardless of platform

Besides, doesn't the dialog wheel indicate Bioware doesn't think anyone reads anymore? :P

why do you need a manual with all the skills and such described when it's all described in-game?

No that is to help avoid confusion, like in Alpha Protocol after someone had said "I have a proposal for you" where the dialogue option named "Proposal" was not the option to ask about the proposal but a bad joke about not being ready to marry...

Is it really a suprise?

EVERY game nowadays has the same handful of pages info, with most of the info you want actually in the page in one form or the other.

Whether its a save money reason, or a save the forest reason it really shouldnt be a suprise to any self respecting game player.

I could probably count the decent-sized game manuals from the past few years on one hand. Last year's Drakensang: The River of Time had a good one at some 80 pages big, and I really needed that to play the game.

Going by the demo I can prolly do quite easily without a manual for DA2, which isn't to say it wouldn't be nice to have one.

*goes to hug his big PC game boxes from the 90s with their delicious non-pdf manuals*

It was made for both platforms, since it is... drum-roll, coming out on both platforms.

They took the trouble to enable DX11 for PC users, so it was definitely not a port.

Not so much any examples, but a lack of examples would be a better description.

- No information on specs, not even a LIST OF WHAT THEY ARE
- No description of the base skills
- No description of companions
- No description of tactic commands
- A horribly vague paragraph about crafting

I know it is ironic complaining on the forums that not everyone reads the forums, wikis, or website, and the manual is their only source of information, but I am anyways. I mean, this is just disappointing.

Also, I made the console manual joke because I am on a PC, and people (including myself) have complained about the turn towards the console with this iteration of DA, and the manual seems to embrace that turn.

I too prefer long, informative manuals that no longer seem to pop up these days.

It's too bad, I suppose. I did enjoy them.

EA is pretty cheap with manuals. Most of them are like 2 pages in black and white.
