You may as well buy the strategy guide for a proper manual.

Isn't it better to get some informational text about something when you are doing that thing and need it rather than having to pick up the manual and look it up or alternatively read it before playing... seriously?

Wouldn't it be better to have both? Besides, manuals are an excellent showoff of concept art. I still remember fondly the Metzen illustrations of orcs holding decapitated heads in the Warcraft II manual.Leonick91 wrote...
OK, everyone complaining about the manuals, please explain why you so dearly need a 50 page manual when everything is explained in game?

Also, they make for excellent reading in the privy.
Please explain me the reason a good tutorial and a good manual should be mutually exclusive. Although you won't be able to, as there is no reason for that.

ok... but why do you want a manual at all? The only reason there are still "manuals" in the box is that they need to put the usual health warnings in there and for pc games need something to print the serial/cd code onReluctant-Hero wrote...
I don't need a 50 page manual. But I would like quality paper and color printing. These days it's just black and white "leaflets".

I'm sorry but I strongly suspect this is true. The guides from Prima are "official" which means they're licensed, which means the developer gets paid either a flat amount or a cut of the profits from the sale of the guide. Gotta be something in the guide that's worth selling, particularly in the age where you can google your question and get an answer. These days manuals suck, whether it's for the PC or console, period.Galaxysiege wrote...
this is what the prima guide is for lol.

How good can a manual possibly be? Seems an odd thing to complain about.
I assume you are quite young. How good can a manual be?
Master of Magic manual, brilliant, with everything you need.
Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, both great manuals, again, you didn't a strategy guide.
Master of Orion 1 (and 2 to a lesser extent ) had beautiful manuals.
Even Icewind Dale and NWN had amazing manuals, color, informative, great have open while you are playing the game with little snippets of information about the peoples and places, as well as commentary.

Why drop manual? Because it is almost always explained better in the game where it's needed it simply gives better context.Xewaka wrote...

Another reason, a little less wasted paper, was it ubisoft or nintendo? already stopped providing manuals at all to be more environmental friendly

Manuals are a waste of paper / trees. I'd be happier if they stopped including one at all in games... they were a thing of joy to go through from the early days of video gaming, but they're obsolete and not needed in gaming today.. they just serve to waste resources and pollute.
Seriously, I am not ****ing about the physicality of the manual. It is the quality of the information. I am FINE with a PDF, in fact, with the ubiquity of PDF manuals, one would think that the quality, with the consideration of publication costs, would increase.

Beautiful artwork, great writing and a real aid to immersion in the world you were about to dive in to, none of it was really needed but it was bloody welcome and appreciated.
