Best Squad for LOTSB Hardcore/Insanity Run?

Anyway, I was just wondering who I should take though. What was a little frustrating about it for me was that Garrus was getting clowned all day by those mercs. And at that point, you're too far in to go back and select a new squadmate. I've been thinking that I should go with Legion, but I thought I'd ask if anyone around here has suggestions.
As of now, I think I'm going Legion/Miranda (Miri for the Vasir fight).

Thane can help deal a lot of damage if you can get those shields down, warp can deal with barriers (Though i used Stasis most the time on them) and combos well with lift. However ,when in doubt i usually take Grunt.

This.
I actually just did this today for the first time (I usually play normal mode). I was an adept and took Garrus for the whole ride through on hardcore: no real reason as to why I picked him. I thought the part on the ship was pretty easy actually: you just need to keep shooting the lightning things and have Liara use singularity a lot. Garrus ended up being a great choice as overload helped on the shields just about everyone had, and concussion shot did some damage to the biotic shields the asaris had.
The toughest part for me was the parking lot fight right before Vasir, just because of all those damn engineers. The battle with Vasir was a bit difficult but I did it my first try, you just need to look out for her shockwave really. The time I died the most was actually right after you talk to Feron, like the last 5 SB agents lol. I think I got cocky and kept getting killed by the asari and once I took out her and a few guards I would turn the corner and find a guy I missed hiding and he'd just blast me away. I think it was because of the close quarters too: my class's weapons didn't help much at that part.

Close quarters fights, bizarre cover forms & layouts : small unorthodox shapes that don't really lend themselves well to setting up shots or protect against incoming fire. Its like they decided to concentrate every impediment to the infiltrator class into one download as punishment for breezing through the vanilla content . But I digress. Point being, that its harder than the rest, but not unfeasible.
I think Thane or Miranda would mesh well with a sentinel, detonating singularities and spamming overload. That being said you'd probably end up having to take the majority of the incoming damage. Not sure what your bonus power is, having a shield boost of some kind would be preferable here. My only concern is Miranda's survivability. From my experience she prefers to take bullets to the head before taking orders , which is why I'd give an edge to Thane.
Alternatively you could pick up Shredder ammo as your bonus power for your self and go with Miranda or Grunt. Grunt doesn't die, ever. In fact i don't think I've ever seen him go down.
But there are far better guides and "how to" going about. Perhaps you could look at a walk through on You tube for advice.

I'll be playing as a Sentinel/Sniper, with my main one. My previous play was Infiltrator though.
That should be fun with Tali and either lvl4 Drone. I actually just ran through that section today on Insanity.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well the brief reunion went
So you know, Tech Armor resets the cooldown for your squadmates each time you recast it. So you can keep reusing Singularity and Drone every time you recast Tech Armor.
So I gave Liara Heavy Singularity and Tali Explosive Drone (but Attack Drone might have worked better). I did not put any points in Liara's passive and tried to put as many points into her Stasis and her other power. For Tali I gave her points toward Quarian Mechanic.
Can't remember my level off-hand but the main part of the build was Assault Armor, Guardian and Tungsten. With a few points in Throw and one in Warp.
I used the Tempest almost exclusively (with Tungsten, I did not get the Locust yet) and I had Tali with the GPS and Liara had the Shuriken. I focused most on the Vanguards, second were the Heavies, after that the reset of the mercs were easier to deal with. Engineers were more annoying than anything for my Shep, but their Incinerate did take out my squadmates.
Use those Lightning Capacitors to your advantage and you should be able to close on the enemy and flank. Tali and Liara got caught in the crossfire a few times with only the Incinerate power being an issue for them, but as long as you out last the Mercs you'll be fine. The key is staying patient and using Assault Armor to its strengths.
Also, I recommend liberal use of Drone and Singularity and those mercs are toast
Edit: Squad-wise for Insanity in general, your squad would depend on what you like to do best. Solid choices are always Zaeed, Garrus and Thane with the Incisor if you have it. The Mattock helps, but without Squad Cryo ammo, the Vindicator is also great for the squad.
Miranda and Mordin are also very solid choices and then you can trade Mordin for Legion once you get him.
Lastly, Grammaton Clerics not pleased with my grammar and syntax.

Yeah, biotics are awesome on the ship and they'll make that fight very easy indeed. You basically have to ignore shooting enemies altogether - just shoot the capacitors every couple of seconds to strip shields and to stagger/stun nearby enemies. Remember you'll get hit yourself if you're too close, so be careful.
Shields (and barriers) are a non-issue, the only thing you'll need to do is finish the lot. Best, fastest and most fun way to do that is by sending them into the storm. Pull and Throw are great, (Heavy) Slam is fantastic and Singularity and Shockwave are good too. Pull, Throw and Slam are on a super fast cooldowns and pretty much guarantee insta-kills - use em!
The only problem I ran into are squadmates. They tend to die very fast if you don't babysit. Try to position them far away from the incoming waves and they should be fine.
BTW; that fight is the 'best' fight in ME2: an open area (not a corridor like most other levels); enemies come from all directions so you can't setup camp somewhere save and fight them off. Interactive environment (capacitor and storm). All in all the most dynamic fight in ME2.

For my Sentinel playthrough I brought Miranda & Samara and basically warp bombed through everything w/o any trouble. I kept Miranda when Liara joined and did the same thing.
Also try shuffling your defensive position when the waves shift direction. It's possible to bunker in in each wave so that the AI can't flank you, which is basically the only way they can get you in that fight. Between that and the lightning capacitors, the fight should be straightforward.ScroguBlitzen wrote...

Wait, how can Pull get enemies thrown off the ship? Don't they just levitate toward the puller?
My thinking with Legion was: good weapons (assualt rifles work anywhere, plus the Widow) and useful powers (Hacking against enemy drones, Combat Drone to distract other enemies, Shield Boost means hopefully he doesn't die too much).

It is harder with companions since they generally float towards you and not up at all due to no arc, but the ones who I think are the biggest danager are the guys who climb on the roof area above the door.(they are elevated and flanking you and can hit you depsite your cover) Since they are already elevated squad pull frequently seems to get them. Also Jack works well for me because I'll pull with liara and then shockwave with jack, they really fly up high then. Miranda would also work well with slam, though I would need to respec her for it since I almost never put points in slam with her.(And I usually do LoTSB before mirandas loyalty mission)
Now I'm also usually a adept so it gets to be biotic sillyness. But with the your sentinel (jack)pull+his throw should also be fine as a way to permanently remove people from the ship.
