So this is what we know from the "What we know thread":

"AUTO-ATTACK:
PC has auto-attack, and consoles will have it but it was not implemented yet at PAX. [
David Gaider - 6:03] 09/09
The status of auto-attack on consoles remains unclear. David Gaider (as noted above) and Sebastian Hanlon (
at 2:29 in this video) at PAX indicated that it was not in-game at the time, and they seemed to like it that way. Then Peter Thomas indicated that auto-attack was not on by default, but could be selected from the radial menu. 09/15
FINAL WORD: PC and Consoles both have auto-attack functionality, but pressing A/X on XBox 360/PS3, respectively, will perform a basic attack. To make a character auto-attack, you can select it from the radial menu. [
Mike Laidlaw] 09/20"

Can we get some clarity on this please?

There were those of us that assumed the "toggle" was a universal setting and that once it was selected it would stay on over the course of your game... recently with the realization that this is not a toggle found in the game options but rather an option in the in-game radial menu, can we please confirm if it's something that applies to the whole game, or do you have to choose it for each target? Is it like, Hold position or move which stays on until you change it, or is it activated per enemy? A clarification from the devs / mods would be greatly appreciated. :?

Nevermind it's in the radial menu on the 360 version.
Only downside is you have to select it from there ever time, pushing the button doesn't activate auto-attack.

Seriously Bioware? I now have to choose an option from the radial every time I engage a new enemy if I don't want to mash the x button every second? Say it ain't so! Please say it's a lie... or it's different on the PS3!:pinched:

This is not a rumour thread, it's a question, a request for clarification about how a feature works in the shipping version of the game that I have pre-ordered... Is auto attack a universal toggle or a per enemy toggle that needs to be re-applyed to each new enemy? Bioware, clarification would be greatly appreciated.

It will probably be a toggle per fight because they want you to press a button and have awesome things happen

That's disappointing. I thought that Mike had said previously, there was a general auto-attack option. Why have it only on a radial menu you have to constantly select?

Ha-ha, even per fight would be better than per enemy... the fewer times you have to go into the radial menu and select the thing the better in my opinion.

Aren't you pausing the game anyway to select targets for skills and such? This isn't terribly annoying, especially if you are already micromanaging targets.

It is indeed disappointing, it would certainly be nice to get some clarity on how it works in the full console version from the devs.

I don't mind the A-button = attack stuff, but I can't say the same for my controller. I kept hearing that consoles would get auto-attack like the PC too. If you have to go to the wheel menu to switch it per enemy I would just leave it off.

Having it be per enemy is a cumbersome mechanic. If it turns out to be true, the person who thought it was a good idea to have it be activated per enemy should get demoted with an uppercut.

because flashy animations, teleportations, ninjas and exploding darkspawn isn't enough.

but seriously... each new target need to pause and select... they practically force you to button smashing.

Well if no answer is forth coming here, I will try getting it answered at the live chat tomorrow. I think it's a reasonable, straightforward non-spoiler type question and should be an easy answer for anyone from Bioware that has spent anytime with the console version of the game.

Wow, i feel sorry for console players. I figured they would put a toggle in the options for auto-attack, but to just have it in the radial menu per combat is poor :(

Glad im getting it on PC .

Lack of auto-attack was what made me detest the demo on my PS3. Having it only on radial in final seems like a lackluster solution. I thought it'd get menu toggle!

This better be universal or I won't buy.

It will create completely unnecesary pauses now. If its going to be like this, I will not buy. I could do with not buying a new game anyway, I just bought two games, thats £80!

In fact we need to bump the hell out of this thread, we need a dev to clear this up and anything about auto attack on consoles once and for all.

Single button combat is extremely bland, even if the animations are fluid and spectacular, mashing A on an ogre that takes 10 minutes to kill is absolutely ridiculous. This is a RPG, not a fighting game.

Common sense. Putting in a universal toggle, even in the radial menu, is just easier for everyone. The fans just need to flick the toggle once, and BioWare doens't need to go in and patch the stupid thing after everybody and their dog complains. Also, the last toggle that BioWare did on the radial (DAO's hold/move freely) was universal.

'Sides, worst case scenario, it'll be patched.

"Common sense" doesn't apply when there might be a technical limitation. Keeping the iso view for PC seemed like "common sense" too.
