If there is no auto attack, it isn't too big of a deal. I have been tapping for every hit in origins for every playthrough except the last, when I dropped my controller and saw my warden still attacking. My fingers still work, no no sore fingers or carpal tunnel or anything.
there is, you just have to manually select it for each enemy.

Sounds like what people want is AUTO TARGETING vs auto attack. Even the demo has auto attack. You just hold down the console controller key for consoles and the RMB for PC to auto attack your target.... but once that's dead.. that's where the problem I have is.. at least on the PC
on the pc, I have to right click to and hold to auto attack... 1/2 the time it clicks the ground and I move!
You mean hold the Button to get the full String?
Tried this after reading it and didn't work for me... pressing the button and holding it down only gives me one Attack.
I'm pretty sure it was the first thing I checked in the console version and I was pissed it didn't work.
On the PC however you don't have to hold the RMB at all, select once than watch your char fire/mash away.
But the A/X on console does have some "select nearest" auto targeting (also considering your directional input), so it's equivalent to the R-Key on your Keyboard.
So it's:
A/X-Button on console = R-Key on PC
"Auto Attack Option" from radial menu = RMB on PC

Except now you will do it 6 times faster.

So its confirmed that I have to button mash, if I don`t want to select auto-attack for each seperate enemy? If this is the case, I am canceling my order right away.
Looking that way. I can see a pretty nasty backlash come release day.

"The final implementation for auto-attack on console is actually a toggle in the options menu, if I recall correctly. You don't have to open the radial menu every time. This may not be present in the demo build, but don't worry, it's there in the final game.
That being said, this is a five-month-old thread that probably didn't need necro'ing."

@Seb do you recall?? Could you check with someone? The menu option universal toggle would make many of us very happy!!!!

I'd be fine with that if there wasn't evidence to the contrary.. It will all be cleared up soon hopefully.

That evidence is old.

You can toggle Origins-style push-once-to-auto-attack combat on the

arguments about accessibility concerns won the day.

No, the evidence that it isn't in the game is a lot newer than that thread.... I'll leave it at that.

All of it from pirates who got an incomplete version of the game.
You wanna trust 'em, that's your business. I'll just sit back and chuckle as you get burned.

The hundreds of "people who got the game ahead of it's release date" since Thursday are stating it's not in the game. It will all be cleared up soon.

Everyone should just spam the live chat in a little while with questions about the auto-attack functionality.
That would be for the best. It's getting late here so if someone could PM me the outcome I'd appreciate it.

For me, the big problem with no auto attack is the fact that they said there would be. Really, that's about it.
Didn't Bioware also state that the Dragon Age franchise would be a "true to it's roots" game? or something like that..
We need to keep this thread going if this is the case.I hated the button mashing and was not going to buy it. However, the second I heard there would be an auto-attack, I pre-ordered it instantly. I will return the game if we need to do this on every enemy, just consider the mobs we will be facing.

Except you wont, and you know you wont. Dont let this get in the way of enjoying such a fantastic series.
Holding down the attack button does absolutely nothing.
So, I think in the final version of the game, there will be an option in the radial menu to auto attack one enemy at a time. After you have killed that enemy, you must then reselect the next enemy for auto attacking. This wont be too much hassle for a boss that takes a while to beat up, but for individual minions this is going to be extremely annoying, and it is clear that this design choice is a mistake. Everyone in this thread agrees that button mashing is boring, and will ware out thumbs and controllers.
Oh well.
