For me, the big problem with no auto attack is the fact that they said there would be. Really, that's about it.

Didn't Bioware also state that the Dragon Age franchise would be a "true to it's roots" game? or something like that..

We need to keep this thread going if this is the case.I hated the button mashing and was not going to buy it. However, the second I heard there would be an auto-attack, I pre-ordered it instantly. I will return the game if we need to do this on every enemy, just consider the mobs we will be facing.

I know what you mean. Sure, there are alot of stuff I don`t care for in this game, but there are alot more stuff in it that I know I will absolutely love. Button mashing, however, will break the game for me. No matter how great the story is. Its just...stressful, i guess.

No, the evidence that it isn't in the game is a lot newer than that thread.... I'll leave it at that.

The links in the OP are from September of last year. My link was from less than a month ago.

The hundreds of  "people who got the game ahead of it's release date" since Thursday are stating it's not in the game. It will all be cleared up soon.

The small handful of pirates who still an incomplete game, you mean?

I'm not going to say that because I don't want this thread closed.

So, instead you're going to pretend that you have legit sources, and spread misinformation across the forums?

I'd rather a closed thread, than trust pirated sources.

So its confirmed that I have to button mash, if I don`t want to select auto-attack for each seperate enemy? If this is the case, I am canceling my order right away.

Except you wont, and you know you wont. Dont let this get in the way of enjoying such a fantastic series.

Holding down the attack button does absolutely nothing.

So, I think in the final version of the game, there will be an option in the radial menu to auto attack one enemy at a time. After you have killed that enemy, you must then reselect the next enemy for auto attacking. This wont be too much hassle for a boss that takes a while to beat up, but for individual minions this is going to be extremely annoying, and it is clear that this design choice is a mistake. Everyone in this thread agrees that button mashing is boring, and will ware out thumbs and controllers.

Oh well.

Hmm, so what if I chose to auto-attack, in the radial menu, and then select another character. Will the auto attack then stay on? Or if I say...use an ability, will I then have to re-select auto attack a second time?

I never said I had legit sources. What I said was it is contrary to what is being reported. That's it. I never claimed to be correct, or an expert, or an insider. calm down dude, it's just a game.

I'm playing the game mainly for the story, in hopes that I will grow to love the other changes. The button mashing though, I'm sure I will never be able to get accustomed to, even if we were able to choose the option for "each" enemy to auto-attack, I would find that even more annoying. The hack & slash feel will make a 40 hour game very tedious.

His answer on the live demo was very unclear.... but I think he said that it will be toggle.

Whether or not is universal, I still have no idea.

Yeah... that wasn't even close to clear.. Not to mention someone asked the exact question ""People have noticed there is no auto attack option in the console version is this true?", and they skipped right over it. Disappointing.

He said that both versions would be very seperate though, so I am fearing the worst.

That's not what he said, at all. He said that functionally, they are very similiar, but the behind the scenes stuff is different.

kingboomachoo says:
Nevermind it's in the radial menu on the 360 version.
Only downside is you have to select it from there ever time, pushing the button doesn't activate auto-attack.

Seriously Bioware? I now have to choose an option from the radial every time I engage a new enemy if I don't want to mash the x button every second? Say it ain't so! Please say it's a lie... or it's different on the PS3!:pinched:

I really hope that the auto attack functionality turns out to be how we all hope it is, and not what is implied about every single fight needing it toggled. I enjoyed the game demo on my PS3 much more than I did on my PC, with the one exception being the lack of auto attack. Like many, my mind was put at ease when I heard it'd be in the final release. Hopefully they make it easy on us, because simply right clicking a mob on the PC to go crazy on it made it much easier to survey the area for how your members were doing, as opposed to the console version needing to continually pound away on the button.

They'd be stupid not to implement it. In any case, in one of the demos, Laidlaw said (and I'm paraphrasing) "you can toggle auto-attack, though, if you want to play it like Origins."
That makes me think that it'll be an options menu thing, else it wouldn't play like Origins.

If it indeed is not a universal toggle, it's a bad mechanic.

BUT

If like in DAO everything on the radial can be assigned a face button for quick use, then auto-attack can be accessed without constant pausing.

Use your head. If they put it in the radial menu, rather than the options menu, do you really think it's a universal toggle?

It's pretty clear that it being off, by default, means they (possibly mistakenly) thought console users wanted to mash buttons.

I thought about that too... but then you're down to two special attacks / abilities on the level 1 quick access instead of 3.

I guess we'll find out on the 8th. :crying:

Yeah, a necessary workaround nevertheless. 1 less quick-talent is nothing compared to 10 extra game hours due to pausing , or carpal syndrome.

I don't think it makes sense to take that option away (aka Toggle auto-attack on the options menu). It's great that they explore new ways and some people may even like the button mashing...but to take away something that Origins console players are used to wouldn't be smart, especially since they emphasized the tactical preservation in DA2.

That said, the thing that did bug me was that regardless of auto or button-mash, the character didn't move into range automatically (rather just pumped his fist or readied the staff) unless you physically moved yourself into range.

Pressing A over and over the entire game will suck. I don't care how much awesome happens! Why hasn't this question been properly answered?

Why has it been answered

Most likely because the answer goes against the vast majority of what people want

Why answer a question that could cost you customers?

Why do people keep insisting that people who've pirated the game only got their hands on a "incomplete" version?  What, do you think the individuals that are stealing copies at shippers, game stores, etc. are ripping the entire game, deleting some files, and then uploading?

Doesn't it make more sense that they have a complete version of the game this close to release?

Really, it can't be that hard to give a clear answer on this.
