Really, it can't be that hard to give a clear answer on this.

It can when the answer is "no" and they don't want you to know that.

I hope we don't have to wait until the game comes out to figure this out.

I was waiting until the chat to say anything, in the hopes that this easily answered question would be cleared up. Well. I can accept the fact that WRPGs are becoming more and more stripped down and action oriented. But, FFS Bioware. Whoever decided that it was a good idea to kill auto-attack for the consoles and turn it into a button mashing fest needs to be fired. DA isn't Gauntlet.

And you know it, and that's why you won't just answer the question.

I've read all five pages of this post and I am sad to see that we still don't have a clear answer on this topic. Well I guess its time to get ready to sell my Signature Edition on Tuesday. I hear its fetching $200 bucks online.

The lack of answer worries me. I think if there was a global toggle Bioware would have been very quick to put our minds at rest.

I`d like a clear answer about this, from one of the developers before the game gets shipped to me in the mail. I`d like a chance to cancel my order, if this is the case.

Seriously people. The xbox version has been out in the wilds for days now. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean the answer isn't out there.

A confirmation from the devs would be nice anyway.

just an acknowledgement of this thread from one of them to show they are at least listening would be nice.

I hate to say this, by Mike was acting like a shrewd politician at some (note: I say some, not all) of the questions thrown at him. Answering them, but at the same time not really answering them. The auto attack question was one example, he went on about how they were different under the surface, but similar fundamentally. Well, ok, so there is an autoattack option, but is it a fire and forget kind of thing, or do we have to do it for each enemy?

Ive heard multiple reports that it is in the radial menu rather than menu options, in which case it should be hot-keyable. 5 quick access talents and the hot keyed auto attack is an acceptable work around.

Someone on the gamespot forums said that simply holding down A similar to Diablo would work instead of button mashing, but alas he was not telling the truth. It does nothing.

I found most of his answers unsatisfying. Did you hear the rest of the Q&A?
(Paraphrasing by the way)

Q:Are there finishers in the game like Origins? Or are they restricted to cutscenes?
A:The finishers in Origins was definitely candid, although we have tried to work it out, it's not something we could fit in to the fast pace-ness of the fighting, but you still get beautiful cutscene finshers like in the demo with the Ogre (Which wasn't satisfying whatsoever) But it doesn't mean we have completely thrown the feature away. We are continuing to see how we could match it with the new mechanics....

wth? the game is out in a couple days, so they are pretty much saying, "we didn't neglect it forever, it will probably be in the sequel"

Don't take away features that was favored in it's original. Give it a toggle on/off if anything, but you should never remove them.

I have a feeling this is why they're not telling us - they want the money, and telling us something that will cause us to not give it to them is bad marketing. Sad, but true.

Thanks Duncaaaaaan.
I will pick up my game but I won't open it. I'll wait a couple days to see if they'll patch it, if not, I'm returning it.

If you don't like the way that particular system plays, buy it for PC instead?

Wow, that was a hard problem that needed a lot of thought. There are solutions to situations which go against what you want, you just have to put some effort into it.

A: We don't know that it does necessarily work like that.
B: Not everyone can afford a good PC.
C: Once we get the game, we can't all really afford to buy another copy.

It's all a matter of preference, and most people who play on consoles just don't have the PC to hold up to the high-res textures and specs of the game. I own a mac, and even though I heard this game will be releasing on Mac as well, I just can't find myself playing a game like DA on my computer.

While I understand your points, surely if it does prove true and you don't like that; you can return your copy?

Seeing as you return one... you would be spending what you gain back from the return and the PC copy wouldn't be any extended expenditure of any kind.

If you can't afford a good PC, I'm seriously sorry man... Hopefully there is auto-attack.

I think, if you open the case and play, you wont be able to get the full refund of the game. At least, thats how it works with my local gameshop. If the protective plastic seal round the case is still intact, they will refund you. You have to rip it open, so you can just carefully reassemble it.

In terms of menu and interface and such, I understand how they are different depending on the platform you are playing on.
But it was just a STUPID choice to say, "hey, we gave PC users a choice, but the guys with the controllers have to button mash"
I think it would be better for them to just have toggle on/off features in the settings, rather than each platform having different gameplay settings

This.
I love the new combat and most of the other changes as well, but hate the button mashing so much that I can't imagine finishing the game with it. Seriously, I'd be scared that it would give me RSI Syndrome.

Ironic I went to get the game off my friend earlier but he was out on the juice last night and the shop was closed. Being in the UK I'll know one way or the other before release here, but I still think it's low if Bioware is covering something up.

Faster speed plus not being able to hold down X is a disaster.
