It's stupid and it's cheap, unless there is some conversation choice that lets you set your preference somehow.

Seriously, I do not find bisexual people romantically attractive at all. No romances for me then. And that means no more BioWare games for me ever again, either.

I'm sorry you're so narrowminded as to let something like this stop you from enjoying DA2 and all of BioWare's future games.

I'm sorry that you think your preference trumps mine.  I am for allowing the player to choose, not have choices like this being made for them.

Ah, I see. So it's OK if you're attracted to men, but the men you're interested in cannot be interested in men. Got it.

Look at it this way when you start a new game you set a universe for your characters. They're not all bi in the canon just gay lesbian or straight if you choose one of those options. Its not like in the LI's discussion it comes up " hi there I''m Merril, I'm an elf and swing either way, how about you?" the game is going to go w/ you preferrence. And seriously if you cant accept videogame chararcters for who they are how do you function in the real world?

It's not really all that strange to be heterosexual and only want to be with heterosexual people, you know.

LOL Jump to conclusions much?

Honestly, it's not all that strange to be homosexual and only want to be with people who are homosexual either.

Wouldn't it be funny if Isabela turns out to be male exclusive outside of a fling and Merril the S/S one?

No.

One of the guys would then have to be a huge tease, and that would make the most epic trolling against the S/S/Fan threads.

As a gay person, I'm in a remarkably bad position to see the humor in tolling the same-sex threads.

It's quite normal.

It's blatant prejudice and just as ugly as homophobia, but it's quite normal.

You're not being forced into a s/s romance. BioWare are letting you choose. I'm sorry that BioWare also letting gays and lesbians choose upsets your enjoyment of the game so much, but I'm happy with what they've done :)

Although I am a little saddened at Tielis' choice of words, I don't think they're homophobic. That's jumping the gun a little. They're straight, that's fair.

I do like BeardedNinja's explanation. The characters are only into same-sex romance if YOU'RE into it and you choose to pursue it. But don't say that offering everyone the chance for whatever romance they want to pursue is somehow "cheap," I don't think that's a fair description at all. It's a game, and if I want to pursue a same-sex relationship with Merrill, I want that chance. The dialogue choices make it pretty obvious what you're doing, with the icons and all. If you don't want to pursue a same-sex relationship, just don't. Problem solved.

This is BS.  It's a perfectly acceptable viewpoint, which I happen to share.  I'm getting really sick of people saying that it's wrong for heterosexuals to have a preference.  I don't want to be with a woman who also likes women.  There is nothing wrong with that.

It's really funny because all of a sudden, the word "homophobe" gets tossed around simply because people choose to think for themselves and not let the media tell them what is right and wrong.  Grow up.  People don't have to agree with you, and harassing somebody because they aren't attracted to gay, or "bisexual," people totally unfair.

Did I say that? I'm just not the kind of person to take my toys and run off in a huff in protest because I don't get my way for the first time in like, forever.

I only decided to post because people were ganging up on that one person, and I find that happens in EVERY thread related to this issue.

Edit... added a quote...

Speaking as someone who is personaly uninterested in the romances regardless of their sexual orientation, I'm also happy.  The benefit to individuals like Ms. Forsaken here as well as the larger GLBT community is something I consider greater value than the loss to individuals such as Ms. Tielis.  Nothing personal.

But, do not make the mistake of thinking that I wouldn't toss the lot of you under a bus if they all started catering to my wishes.  Oooh yeah.

How is she a homophobe? She just said that she prefers to have sex with heterosexual people, rather than bisexual. It's not homophobia, it's preference.

And I want you to have that chance.

And I want everyone who wants purely homosexual romances to have that chance without having every character say they go "either/or".

And I want everyone who wants purely heterosexual romances to have that chance without having every character say they go "either/or".

If BioWare is making every character available for every romance (and that is a good thing), they should allow the player to choose what sexuality they want to deal with *before* they even meet these characters.  That way you could choose ******, hetero, or bi, and be off and running.

Playing these games, with the romances, is about fantasy.  One person's fantasy should never be more important than another's.

Tielis, BW are NEVER going to do purely gay romances.  I wish they would, but it's not gonna happen in my lifetime.

So bi is as good as we're gonna get.

So this is why your complaining comes across as homophobic.

So, for clarification, the characters don't tell you that they're attracted to both sexes unless you flirt with them as a s/s?

See, I don't get this.  Bisexuality is somehow "better" than homosexuality?  That's just craziness.

It's not right to settle for crumbs.

It seems a little strange that all LI's would be bi. It adds no depth to the characters, it just says something similar to "Have sex with A, B, C or D".

Though bioware has attempted this and it has been a fantastic success. Take DA:O for example. Morrigan, the latently gentle mage who puts up barriers to protect herself, for her to take a step toward bi-sexuality wouldn't reflect the character at all. She would be insecure about every aspect of a relationship, why would she be so quick to explore it after you talk to her a couple of times? The player would suffer a detachment from the if not only morrigan but all other charcters were to be bi sexual without reason.

Leliana and Zevran, though the share the same reason for bi sexuality, as they were taught and raised in a community at a young age that it was very open to all these ideas of multiple partners, same sex partners, etc. They had room to 'breathe' sexually and explore a lot of it, though it was used mainly to help them to deceive their targets.

All I'm saying is that if you make everyone bi sexual for no reason, then you take away a variety among characters and their depth for no reason.
