I've been reading these forums for a while, this is my first thread, and have noticed a lot of people dislike the ME2 boss. I didn't see another thread asking this so I thought I would make one.

What would you say would have made a truly epic boss for ME2? "Anything but Termi-Reaper" doesn't count, since it doesn't really add to the discussion haha. Bonus points if you can come up with something that truly captures the whole "Suicide Mission" feel, considering how Shephard and team basically take on the Collector Base with insane ease (even more so if you're fully upgraded).

A complete Reaper, in the flesh; so to speak, level by level like Bruce Lee.
Death by Claymore and elbows.

It's the design of the human reaper that killed the mood. If there was a better design, less human, more reaper-y, then it would be great imo.

I agree with the sentiment that it was more the design of the "Reaper Larva" that killed it for me. Fighting a "baby" Reaper wasn't a bad idea; making it humanoid was just a WTFAIL of epic proportions. If it had looked like a half-complete, skeletal Sovereign, it would've been much more palatable.

That said, I think an alternate end boss fight between Shepard and a Harbinger-possessed/enhanced Collector General would've been good too.

I think it would have been fine if it was a half constructed traditional reaper shape...the half squid ****-a-roach thing they've got going on.

It was just..the human reaper was soo...soo....blagh.

The Collector General as a super biotic being. That would have more realistic then a giant terminator that can squeesh Shepard with a thumb.

I think if it had been like a giant George Bush, it would have lent more to the thinking that the human race and the galaxy was in peril, rather than some gargantuan uber-chromed birthchild of the terminator.

I agree that the final boss fight should have been against the Collector General. With an awesome part where you fly around him on one of those Hexagon Transporters and shoot him from above.

I'd have preferred no boss fight at all; something a little cleverer instead.

Human Reaper, sure, but have it be non-functional. Maybe barely conscious; let Shepard kill it while it's helpless and doesn't even really know what it is yet.

The Collector general would have been far more appropriate as the final boss. The way he is featured in the game and how he constantly attacks Shepard by possessing the regular Collectors really built up the expectation that we'd be facing him in person in the end. Then again, a lot of things would have been more appropriate and could have improved both the story and the ME universe, like the Collectors being a separate race with their own backstory and motives, instead of the poor "Collectors are mutated Protheans" plot twist.

The Reaper fetus thingie from the artbook.

With the Collector General on top of it, and loads of waves of Collectors/Husk rushes/Platform circling Scions/Praetorians attacking while getting closer and closer.

1) The Collector General, as others have said

2) Not a boss, specifically, but waves of Collectors that Shepard must fight through or hold off.

3) as #2, but replace "Collectors" with "indoctrinated humans" For a really "dark second act", add a few familiar faces in there, especially if you dawdled before triggering the SM Posted Image

4) Shepard doesn't encounter anything.  Cut to Hold the Line and play as a different character until it's time for The Run Back.

Collector General would be nice, but a Humanized Reaper not such a bad idea, if it were cooler and looked more...I don't know like a Mecha or a stone man or something, you know more finished, and less T-100.

I thought the GC would be the end-boss right from Horizon and onwards. Then on the last mission, I was like: "Yeah, a fledgling human reaper. Now, where's that CG that'll try to stand between me and that twisted piece of metal?" I almost facepalmed when I realized I'd fight the terminator instead :(

I agree that a big part of the final boss issue was the design, though it didn't bother me as much as others.  But on a more basic level...do all games have to include a huge, completely distinct end enemy to defeat and then immediately jump to a cut-scene conclusion?

Fighting through an area with a mix-up of different enemies (where were the batorians, by the way...off taking a nap?) while trying to flee with your squad might be interesting and could tie into how many people survive.  The longer you take to get out and join the other group, the more squadmates die...something along those lines.  That would stress me out a lot more than some end boss.

I don't mind the Human Reaper, but, if I had to say something, I think a new form of Collector, unique from the others and very powerful, would be great to have. Something like Collectors General's right arm. Only used in rare cases.

I'd have you fight througn the Reaper like in the derelict Reaper mission, killing off waves of Collectors as you go. There'd be a final confrontation with the General before you get to the Reaper's core which is where you'd plant the bomb.

I agree with others with the collector general or even using waves of collectors instead of a final boss.
