Blizzard and Nintendo both have done same day release date globally so there are no red tape or regulations involved. Otherwise games made by Blizzard and Nintendo you would see a crap load of exceptions.
And how many games have they done that for? I can bet that not every Nintendo game has a global release date.
There are exceptions but getting everyone to agree on set release dates for every single release would be a hell of an achievement.

If they did that, store sales would plummet.
"No one" in euroupe would by physical copies of the game.
I think you misunderstand. I *am* talking about physical copies. They're already here. I'll have mine by the 8th without issues. Theoretically I could've had it today, because they were ready to be sent out on the 4th already.
I am not talking about Digital Downloads.
This thread is about the Release Control which will apply to both boxed and downloaded versions. Both of which would seemingly be readily available by the 8th.
To repeat: Boxed versions of Dragon Age 2 are already here. It isn't an infrastructure/shipping problem. Digital Download wouldn't really get you the game any quicker than a physical pre-order.

To the OP
I'm not familiar with European laws on this subject, but it sounds like you may be able to legally purchase the game on the 8th, but if the release date is scheduled for the 11th then that retailer may be illegally selling the games early when he should be waiting until the 11th to begin selling.

I have to admit I didn't know there was a release control built into games so they couldn't be activated before release date. Is this an internet date check or does this check the date and time on your PC?
it's an online date check with the EA servers.

Dragon Age II does not use SecuROM at all. Consumer opinions on the software were very poor and EA felt it better to not include it on releases instead using their own online systems for copy validation.
SecuROM provides the Release Control system, not the copy protection. I found that information on these forums just a few hours ago.
http://www2.securom....Order.85.0.html <- this thing here, according to that thread. I can try looking it up again if you care.

Yes just the PC version way there is no way to enforce it on the console.

The release control software is also made by Sony DADC, the same team that makes securom. But it is not the same product - for instance, it does not install anything etc just as we've stated before. They have the same support site though which is the URL you're seeing.

What would happen if an American bought the game on steam and gifted it to you?
I have no idea.
My guess is that the Release Control system will still go by the European release date.

It will go by whatever country you are trying to play the game in. So yes you are correct.

Would this mean you could spoof it by internet proxy?

Those who pirate the game will pirate the US version that is released on the 8th.
Americans who buy the game and people who will download it (both living in the US and the EU) get to play the game on March 8, while honest buyers in Europe have to wait three more days.

I'm a PC gamer myself but I find this extremely hilarious. DRM systems that are meant to fight piracy but somehow they enforce it. I don't know if you read forums and visit sites outside this community, but some events have happened not too long ago and while we are here discussing about release dates, there are people out there laughing at us.
I feel sort of insulted. No one seems to care about us and it hurts my customer feelings.
I hope they fix this soon.

I live in Uk, and my preordered usually be shipped around when the Americans get their copies. Which means, the same as you, I get my copy on the 8th of March, and I can not play it.
I don't know the ideas behind all of this stuffs, but I don't think they will do anything about it, so I don't think there will be any change....

Your EA account will be listed as European so no. With many combinations of proxy servers and foreign EA accounts who knows but it seems like more trouble than waiting a couple of days to play it huh

Yes, as I get my copy, but for the sake of whatvever, I can not play it, eventhough I'm the same customers as any one else.
Not that I ask they change this stuff, I they didn't do it, I don't think they suddenly change yjeir policy for this game alone. Whatever.

I've worked at a (anonymous) gaming store here in NZ, and unless released on a Thursday or Friday, the company would charge extra for shelf space if the publishes requested it released on a different day. I've heard similar stories from others working in different gaming stores. Not sure if it's just our country, or even just the practice of a few gaming stores, but it may be a possible reason?
Thank you for your input, this might possibly have something to do with it. If that's how it is however, there should be some changes made, because it's a quite silly thing to do. Just ends up hurting the honest customers - if every shop just started the sales on the day the publisher requests without higher prices, they'd make the same profit, and everyone would get their games sooner.
I also don't quite understand it from a different standpoint; Fridays seem like a very stupid day to release games. It'll just make a lot of people drive to shops on Fridays and Saturdays, making those days even more traffic-heavy.
Someone suggested earlier that it might have something to do with people taking days off work for videogames, but that can't have anything to do with it - the average European is less fanatic about videogames than the average American from what I know (sadly!), so if there's no huge problem with American game releases on Tuesdays, there sure shouldn't be one in Europe either, if they switched to Tuesdays as well.

They don't even have to change much. They just shouldn't further enforce it with an online date evaluation system.
It would be even better though if they changed it in general. But that probably won't happen anytime soon. The more people voice their unhappiness with those business practices however, the more likely it might be changed sometime in the future.

They wouldn't change the Release control system to fit one day because it would destroy brick and mortar stores and Publishers and developers need those retailers. Don't bit the hand that feeds and all that.

Um....I don't think gaming shops care that much about increased traffic. There are midnight releases where people wait in line in the rain for some games. They know that if people want their game when it's released, they'll get regardless of traffic.
And if they charged more for the shelf space, they get more profit. It's the publishers decision to accept these extra charges, or delay the release date. There have been games here where the publishers have agreed (I assume, as we got the orders to put out the stock). And (again, I assume) they got extra profit this way. Business's will always be looking for extra ways to make more money.
I'm not defending it, just simply giving a reason.
