Because compared to many of the other armors in the game the Blood Dragon Armor looks very poor when the camera is close-up. I dunno why Bioware haven't put more effort in the texture, as one would believe it to be the crown-juwel of the game, but sadly it's not.

Look here:

Image IPB

Every line / contur or the armor that is not horizontally looks frayed, the texture resolution in general is worse in comparison to even the standard gear of the game.

It looks better when the camera is further away, but just look at how awsome the grey warden armor Alistair in wearing here in comparison to the Blood Dragon Armor:

Image IPB

The grey warden armor doesn't look blurry / frayed on close-up, neither.

PLEASE, if anyone could do something about it, a texture artist or Bioware themselves, PLEASE do a high-res textures. Thanks in advance.

IKe0s has created a great new texture for the Blood Dragon Armor. You can download it here: CLICK ME

And with arcDaniel we have yet another great texture artist trying to make us happy, and he certainly will: CLICK ME

arcDaniels texture is based on IKe0s texture but has a darker tone to it. I like both and both are of great detail, so I suggest you try them both and decide which one you like best. :)

the resolution on the dragon armor bums me out. and i noticed not to long ago when i for the first time put it on a human model it makes you look fat =(

never noticed that on my dwarf :D

Edit: and if they reduced the intensity on the red visor on the helmet so you look less like a cylon it would not hurt.

Hear hear, love the design. But the low resolution really puts a kink in that :(

I'm not sure, but after prolonged use of the armor I think there is also a problem with the glow-map. I think it is somehow disabled on closeup, worsening the problem.

When you walk around normally and turn the camera around your character, there is this metalic glint on the armor, as with every armor in the game. Yet when you're in conversation this seems to be totally gone.

Anyone else?

If so then there's another reason to fix it. As I said, I think this armor is meant to be one of the best looking in the game - and judging from the design I agree, I don't think it makes you look fat, plus I prefer this armor over the ones with the 1960ty-style-shoulder-pads XD - so it's only in Biowares best interest to improve on the texture. They did at least create a huge hype about the armor, advertising it multiple times for Dragon Age & Mass Effect 2.

This forum is impossible. Even if the Bioware devs would try, they simply cannot stay in touch with new topics, possibly important topics and so on.
Either they made this forum so quick on purpose, or some - sorry - amateurs programmed it. At least some reasonable sticky topics would make sense, such as "requests" or "bugs". But nooo...
Guess the community is a stillbirth with this forum. -.-

yeah, they could skip the pot lid belt buckle, that is what makes you look pregnant/fat.

Man I thought I was the only one with that issue.

Honestly, I like it better as a black blob, seeing the screenshots of the real thing.

The belt-buckle doesn't concern me, I think it actualla looks good. Like some impenetrable armor protection for the stomach. ^^

And for the helmet, well, there are better ones ingame, so I don't care.

No, I'm not complaining about the design, that's the coice of the model artists at Bioware. I'm complaining about the texture and my argument is, that Bioware didn't really intent to have their best armor look that cheap. I think they had too little time, but that's something they could fix now. :)

I can live with the low resolution. The laser nipples, belt and Cylon helmet on the other hand...

The texture work on this armor set is poor, no question about that. The design, well, that's subjective but I could do without the glowy bits personally.

YEAH! Gonna test this now. I cannot believe I missed this. O_o

/edit: Well, I tested it and it is...better. But still not as good as most of the other armor textures, even regular gear counted in. What the texture artist at dragon age nexus did was to sharpen the texture.

While this does make it look more definined and higher res, it also adds some kind of "unrest" to the texture, it seems to flicker at the edges of the texture. You'll notice it when you move the camera around your character.

It's the same problem as with the first version, though the texture really is high-res now, nice work on that.

See the video or try the savegame I sent you via PM @ the dragon age nexus forum. Though it is recorded with the old version of the texture, the jittering of the texture is still there with the new version, maybe even worse, because the new texture is even more detailed it seems.

Please don't get this wrong, I really appreciate you're trying to make this armor shine as it should. :)

In new version evrything is ok. Tested. You must just delete files frome previous Blood Armor HD and install new one. Make sure you deleted this file from your override folder: pn_arm_bdaa_0s.dds , pn_arm_bdaa_0sl2.dds , pn_arm_bdaa_0sl3.dds , pn_hlf_bdaa_0s.dds , pn_hlf_bdaa_0sl2.dds , pn_hlf_bdaa_0sl3.dds

The grey warden armor is a beauty. All others pale by comparison.

Now if only my game wouldn't crash on hi-res in the big town, I'd be happy.

@reative24: Well, guess you're right. The armor looks great now. And the jittering I mentioned is simply caused by the many details of the armor. This could very well be the reason why Bioware decided to make such a low-res texture, but I don't mind. It looks brilliant now! :)

On the screens the shoulder part does look very good. On the other hand reative24s texture has more metallic gloss to it. Damn, you give me a hard choice here. Going to have a look ingame, then I'll decide.

...or I'll force you two to work together, creating the ULTIMATE TEXTURE, muhaha. :P
