All I know is that white men can't jump.

Which is probably why most Bioware characters are white.

No, clearly he is a samurai, or quite possibly a ninja. Have you seen the acrobatics in the demo?

Are you saying african americans are not acrobatic?

Well, they've got to be able to jump now. Well, the rogues anyway.

Hawke is not African American as neither Africa or America exist there. Neither do any Earthly nations just get over it. You may make him different colours but not any nation. Personally I want him purple with green hair but yet again Bioware let me down (sob wipes at eye)

Says you. My Hawke is black, end of storyB)

I have to admit, I've had the most fun perusing through this topic while at work! It may have gotten off track at times, but at least not as bad as some of the other threads that I've visisted. at the end of the day, I'm thankful that Bioware included the incredibly deep character customization options. I'm black (i.e. african american) however I'm also of a lighter complexion. For games that have asked us to immerse ourselves totally into the fantasy that they've crafted, it's a beautiful thing to be able to create a character that favors yourself. Personally, it makes me get deeper into the story.
That said, I'm probably in the uber small minority of people who actually enjoyed DAO's silent protagonist, as it solved the question what I should sound like.

FWIW: My first couple of hours through ME2, I had a problem with the way Jacob was portrayed, but I was just being overly sensitive. He's actually one of the better and more positive black characters included in video games, and theyu did a great job of giving him a realistic personality and disposition.

Yes he is in most other games they have fro's, are hood rats, or are trying to KILL YOU. So yes I rather liked talking to Jacob myself, I don't really see how some think he's boring...maybe I just pick the right lines beats me. Now his Dad, that dude was just crazy. Always arrest him, maybe I should let him shoot himself once...

Yeah, this catch-all phrase "African-American" is often much more offensive or annoying than the term "black". Why can't we call black people black? I prefer being called black. I'm originally from Africa, but I'm not American. I'm Canadian and proud.

No, black people aren't actually black. (Some are close. Some damn fine lookin ones, I say), but white people aren't white either - the're PINK SKINS! Those aliens on that God-Awful Enterprise show got it right (Even though they seemed to refer to ALL humans as pink-skins.... which was weird).

Except for the Gingers. They're white devils.

As a black gamer I've gotten used to playing white characters, and I don't mind at all, but I LOVE being able to make a strong black character myself. Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effects.... they're awesome not only because of this, of course, but still, I love that option.

Or, being called one thing or the other when you're mixed. Technically I don't really fall into any category since both of my parents are mixed.
