But seriously, I think it is great that if you choose to play a Hawke who looks african, arab, asian or anything else some attempt has been made to have your family resemble your Hawke.

By the way, the cradle of manhind seems to be Africa, but there is absolutely no evidence that the older human forms were black or had black phenotypes. As manhind evolved further, people adapted to their region. For example, most monkeys (our nearest cousins with respect to evolution) have a rather white skin below their fur, like chimps. If you think the first humans some million years ago looked like Denzel Washington you may be awfully wrong...
*sigh*
Yes, you are right that the cradle of "man" was Africa... partially. ****** erectus- our closest extinct relative, not counting ****** sapiens (Archaic)- roamed out of Africa and into the Middle East and up into Europe and Southern Asia. H. erectus is not considered human.
No, you are wrong about our closest cousins. Our closest cousins are apes (specifically chimpanzees), not monkeys. Monkeys (and prosimians) are the furthest from us in the evolutionary tree.
No, humans weren't around millions of years ago. That time frame ("some" million years) would belong to the genus of Australopithecus as well as ****** habilis. ****** sapiens didn't come along until ~0.5mya, and these were the Archaic variety of humans, sharing the Earth with both ****** erectus and ****** neanderthalensis. ****** sapiens sapiens (modern humans) didn't appear until ~0.2mya.
And now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

Actually, it's the Keepers. The enslaved and repurposed by the Reapers Dalish mages, who lasted billions of years into the future , creating galactic life after every Reaper harvest, and maintaining the Citadel.

Yeah, you could be correct. But I also thought he could have been based on the Portuguese. Well, the tanned Portuguese at least. I thought it made sense considering all the accents that have been chosen for the game thus far have been in quite close proximity to the (English) Fereldens.android654 wrote...

Well, India and GB have a long sordid history... THen again they do with pretty much every cultutre in the world, so pretty much all peoples are fair game. The UK has a pretty big numbers of different ethnic groups.

I was glad too, especially since I don't get too see too many people that look like I do in the type of fiction I like. Not that its a huge problem, it's just nice to see. I've come to terms with the fact that fiction caters to stereotypical notions of the world.

They were so careful not to give Jacob any possible stereotypes that he ended up being a void of any kind of personality or culture. They should of just had a life-sized cardboard cutout of him saluting Shepard that Garrus (or another crew member) could unfold and put in the background for each scene.
That's kind of the point. Some people are dry, detatched and short with people, regardless of what they look like.

It got real close though: "we'll spill some drinks on the citadel" and "looks like a suicide mission, I volunteer". Those two had me rolling my eyes especially considering Miranda's response to the second about it being noble and all.

Or they could have just written him like anyone else and he would have been fine.
Believe it or not (and this isn't directed at you) there are black people in the world who don't bear every single stereotype that we've been exposed to. I certainly don't. I don't react to the use of the n-word because to me it's harmless. In fact I take issue with others who share my skin color using the word and being offended at its use by others who don't look like us because they should know better. I don't drink and I don't smoke so a scene from "Friday", "New Jack City", etc isn't something I'm familiar with because I never grew up with it. I don't live and breath hip hop (I don't have a problem with it) as I'm more at home with rock. In fact, the biggest musical influences in my life were Don Williams, Paul Simon (sans Garfunkel), Jimmy Cliff, U2, and Michael Jackson. So why should I come across a character that has to fit a certain mold because of the color of their skin or not come across a character of color because someone has it mind that they won't do that character justice unless they encompass as many stereotypes as possible?

The way the darker skin tones looked in DA: O looked like the characters were wearing heavy makeup, not like it was their actual skin tone.

It wasn't so much the features, they just looked like Laurence Olivier in Othello.

I don't see how those are stereotypical of black people. Seems more typical of soldier characters, which Jacob is.
