I don't see how those are stereotypical of black people. Seems more typical of soldier characters, which Jacob is.

Yeah that's what I got from it.

Black people go on suicide missions?

It got real close though: "looks like a suicide mission, I volunteer".

Black guys always die first dude. Always. Jacob simply accepted that fact and didn't try to run away from it. Posted Image

LMAO! I thought it was Like Mordin once said, "Military bravado, jargon, chest pounding.... No offense."

I'd prefer a bomb that would makes us all gray. But, to be honest people are always going to marginalize other people for whatever the reason. I just try not to think about it, kind of have to.

Black. The word is black.

White people, don't worry about political correctness so much. It just looks stupid when you use "African American" like that. We're not offended.

It doesn't make much sense to make Hawke black does it? i mean his family is white, the country he comes from is cold etc.

Yeah I've never gotten why white people are absolutely okay with saying white and being called white, but then we move to this whole "african american" rhetoric as soon as black people come up.

Yeah pretty much why I added then we go hate the rich!, to the end there. I say the best policy is to hate EVERYONE EQUALLY. Or well because they are a jerk to you or something.

Also I call people that are black, black, white white, other races they race they are when I need to be discriptive. Unless I know your name then I use it.

I think it comes from people who perhaps don't deal with a lot of different cultures, so they try not to offend. at least that's what I figure. Being called black doesn't really bug me, but I do have a name which is preferable.

Daddy (Malcom) Hawke's race is up in the air. BioWare probably did that so your Hawke can be whatever you want him to be. If he's black/dark skinned, maybe he was a Nevarran. If he's butt ugly, maybe he was an Orlesian. <.<

Well, yeah. I'm not saying I'd prefer "Hey blackie/brownie!" to my name, but I think spelling out "African American" to refer to all black people is silly. Case in point: Americans referring to black people, IN AFRICA, as "African American".

But everyone loves brownies, unless you're diabetic then it's sweet delicious death.

I did think that was funny. How are Africans, African American?

Not to mention not all africans are black. I wonder if there's a stat somewhere on the percentage of black people in africa.

I have 3 cousins who are half Filipino. Two of them are white with blonde hair, the other is dark brown with black hair. It's possible.
Edit: I have to mention that they are all siblings.

I remember in one of the interviews, that your family would resemble your customized character to a certain degree

http://en.wikipedia....frica#Ethnicity

Most of those differences in ethnicity seem to be semantics to me. South Africa is actually quite diverse.

I believe that their skin tone adjusts to yours in some cases.

Someone said black people in DA:O/DA2 are white people with makeup, and to this I'll add +1.

I want to have a negress running around; I want my smart black professor; neither is possible due to the lack of implementation of hair, and proper skin tones; never mind adjustments to the bodies and faces.

They never look black, esp. not African, since at most they will get straight hair, and you only get that through protein solving hair treatments; no 'fro and I don't see my characters investing heavily into extraneous hair treatments that burn the scalp.

Besides the skin.

DA is not a alone offender, most games do it badly (FO3 and FONV are jokes in this, since your chances of finding protein solving hair packs is close to zero in the post apocalyptic wasteland, and it looks hilarious on people in dirt clothing begging for water ~ "what, you spent a 1000 caps on your hair, and now you want my ****ing water?"

EDIT: And calling them African is stupid, or  I want my white European lady*, but call it illuminating the fact that I don't want just a poor black re-texture, but more of the defining features of what we here, around the sol, on tellus call those black people of African decent

*this one you can actually get, save their oppression

Good job by bioware if that's the case, otherwise i imagine i would have a heard time playing a black character without totally ruining immersion.

Its kind of broken in the modded demo, esp. since the skin on the body never changes, but skin on the faces do, and hair and such does as well.

It is the case.

Someone unlocked the character editor in the demo though, and the family appearance didn't change. Which is exactly why the character editor was locked... that function wasn't in the demo.

But Bioware has definitely said that our family's appearance will change based on our own, including skin tone.

TO be fair, the character creator in Fallout 3 and New Vegas is horrible no matter what you do. Good thing the gameplay is fun.
