Then Fenris for my Man!Hawke
(I'm a straight female who loves slash fiction, but prefers my LIs for the character that is "me" to be straight - weird, I know)

Just have your little fling with Isabella before starting your romance with Merrill, so everybody wins
I for one will go for Merrill in my first playthrough

Nothing wrong with threesomes, as long as they're all consenting adults.

Anders for my Fem!Hawke (canon). I just hope he doesn't mention the bi thing unless you play as a male.

Anders is bi no matter what gender you are. Merrill and Fenris are likely "subjective."
My guess is that, because of they way Anders acted in Awakening, the writers felt the need to justify the fact that the character can like men in anyone's game.
Fenris is an amnesiac and a new character. Merrill's interaction with us was so limited that no one can say anything about her sexuality. She could have been a full-blown lesbian and we wouldn't have known the difference. They could go either way, and so they do. Fenris is gay, or he's straight. Same with Merrill.
But Anders, however, expressed lots of interest in women, and made only one ambiguously off-color remark toward Nathaniel that could even hint at him liking guys. So, enter Karl. It's a character retcon, plain and simple. BioWare is saying "Actually, Anders has always preferred men, he just never talked about it." Which is fine. But, if it ends up making him a character that you don't like, or don't want to romance, that's just tough. I don't mean that belligerantly. It's just a fact of the character.

I'll figure it out as I go along. I'll be playing M!Hawke first, but I'm open to any of them as love interests. I probably have the least interest in Isabela, but only because of her goofy beard thing.
Ahhh, yes. When I first played the demo and really took a look at her, I thought she had some massive mole under her lip. Weirded me out for a good five minutes until I realized it was a piercing.

I think he's like Zevran in that you are aware of his orientation even on a FHawke play.

If he's bi it doesn't mean he prefers men, unless he actually states it like Zev states he prefers women, just that he likes both.
