 I bought the game from Direct2Drive, did the Vista fix (replacing the mss32.dll file) and played it.  It was working alright.  I turned my PC off for the night, turned it back on, and voila!  When I click on the game, An error message pops up informing me that my disc isn't inserted.  So, what do I do?

On a side note: when I was playing the game, I did have one problem:  all cutscenes were seperated by 5 minutes of black screen.  For example, for the Taris crash, the CG crash, the PC thrashing around in his/her sleep, and the dream wherein Bastila fights Darth Revan are all interspaced with 5-minute black screens.

Other possibly-relevant information: I'm running the game in compatibility mode for XP SP 2 and as an admin, and the game is patched to 1.03.
