i'm between Aequitarian and Libertarians: i want the Cirle to be free, but have set rules regarding important things like abominations, blood magic, etc. (and if those are broken, have the person sent to the chantry, or killed off, but only if its super bad)

I would change your post. The devs ban people for talking about politics. (I got Stanley Woo'd myself)

Isolationist. I rather leave for a far off land with my fellow mages where we can build our own magocracy. The other fraternities (why are there no sororities? :P) all necessitate interacting with mundanes. That is more trouble than it is worth for them *and* us. I also want to wear a costume like Polaris; so the Magneto rip off will be complete. :D

The Aequitarians for sure. It'll advance society, but at least won't run the risk of unleashing a zombie apocalypse of Abominations, undead a
nd demons on the citizens of Thedas.

Agreed! :)

Indeed. Some policing is required because in this instance, absolute freedom constitutes a great risk for the general good.

Isolationists

Give the mages their own country...so that they become an advanced civilization like the imperium. Just make sure to keep it in the bounderies of the country maybe with slight expansion.

If you mean technologically, that wouldn't really make sense. Why invent a machine that heats a pot (or what have you), when you have magic at your fingertip?

Personally? I'm in the middle between Aequitarian and Isolationist, with some Libertarian views. Mages should have guidelines and sets of rules because of the risk of demons, but at the same time be able to practice their magic in peace without having to be within a Circle.

I know there are dozens of mage threads on this forums, but they all boil down to Mage vs. Chantry in one manner or another, so I decided to see where people stand in a purely mage-centric debate. Which Fraternity of the Enchanters would you or your Warden/Hawke most strongly support and why?

My Warden would definitely go with the Libertarian party but would also support Aequitarian ideals. While it is true that mages are dangerous (something made evidently obvious) they have as much right to a life as anyone else. The more they are discriminated against, the greater the self-fulfilling prophecy that they will indeed become dangerous just out of spite (like with Uldred who imo only launched his rebellion after having his voice rejected in the Battle of Ostagar). Mages should be a self-governing body that teaches its members the importance of morals and guidelines.

  • Aequitarians - They are the dominant faction in Ferelden's Circle and promote a moderate and popular viewpoint that advocates a set of rules and guidelines for mages to live and operate by. They believe that all mages should help people and follow a set of ideals.
  • Loyalists - They follow the Chantry's
word as it is written. Often called "Chantry apologists" for accepting
the Chantry/Templars ever present observation. They are allied with the
    Aequitarians.
  • Lucrosians - They believe that mages and their talents should be used for monetary gains.
  • Isolationists - Wish to separate themselves from Templars. Chantry and indeed civilization in order to practise magic without scrutiny. Possibly "on an island somewhere".
  • Libertarians - They desire that the Circle will eventually
become an autonomous, self regulating order without Chantry involvement
at any level. They form the largest opposition to the
    Aequitarian-Loyalist alliance
  • Formari - The Tranquil belong to this group and do all the enchanting and trading on behalf of the Circle

I play with a blood mage so I geuss Isolationist

Loyalist (or Aequitarian to a lesser extent).
Mages are dangerous and should be closely and carefully monitored.

I'd say more Libertarian with a good dose of Aequitarian mixed in.  I believe the Circle should serve more as a school to teach young mages how to use their gift and protect against possession from demons.  Mages would then still be able to visit their families and have a life outside of the circle.

Furthermore the Templars would be seperated from the Chantry as well and would still peform alot of current roles but to lesser extremes.  I.E. They would still watch over mages and hunt down evil mages (blood mages for the most part) but would do so with mages helping them as well and be less like zealots in how they approach their hunts or if they run into apostates.

Loyalist.

Mages pose a very real threat to the common people of Thedas, and the Chantry's actions are necessary for the well being of mages and non mages both. Without the system and its rules, you end up with the hubris and injustice of Tevinter, the chaos and barbarism of the Chasind, or the brutal oppression and mutilation of the Qun.

Most people would rather deny a difficult truth than face it. Libertarians are so caught up in their own selfish whining that they fail to look beyond the tips of their own noses and consider that staying put in the tower might just be the best thing to do for everyone's sakes.

Say no to mage emancipation!

Probably Aequitarian. I believe some reform would be nice; with mages afforded some more freedoms and, most of all, the secularization of the Circles.

A rogue is free to be a Antivan Crow

Are they locked up?

NO!

A warrior is free to become a reaver

Are they locked up?

NO

This is just old bias from the tevinter imperium and the corruption of Andraste's religion by the power hungry chantry
