As a hunter if I can have a wolf and my war dog out, I will name my war dog "Truth" and my wolf "Lies."

You can name it 'Sten' and then tell the real Sten, "hey, see I name my best friend after you'.

You can imagine how Sten would react to that!!

Probably call mine Wraith, after the spirit wolf protector of Nest Freemark in the Word and the Void novels by Terry Brooks.

(Yes I know those books are a little juvenile, but I read them when I was 14 and they've stayed with me. :P)

I think just plain old Dog will do. Its a war dog after all. Not a pet. Bread to kill not to cuddle. More like livestock and probably disposable. It would be nice to have a never ending supply of them back a the kennel. Might even be good for food in a pinch?

Right. So why no mention of FF7? While I don't worship at the altar of Sephiroth, or wish my hair had as much bounce as Cloud, and nor do I cry myself to sleep each night thinking of Aeris, it was still a decidedly epic RPG set in a high fantasy environment.

I despise FFVII on many, many levels - and if you've ever been to any FF forums you know massive flamewars have been going on for a decade without any chance for peace in sight so I don't think pursuing this topic any further would do this thread any good.

A safer note, I think - FF's (and often JRPGs in general from my experience) don't really fall into neat fantasy/sci-fi categories. I'd personally call FFVII a sci-fi with fantasy elements, if I had to.

"Ein". "Santa's Little Helper" is great, but a bit too long, I guess.

I'm leaning towards "Mittens" right now, but nothing's set in stone.
