he isn't. presumably he ran off as soon as the coast was clear just in case anyone discovered his involvement. he did say before that the only reason he hadn't already left was because anyone trying to leave got grabbed by undead

He has died for me every time save for once, and that was a lucky occurrence where I happened to kill the enemy just before it killed him.
Still, I never found him after that one time, so I assumed he ran away.
