Characters still yell things in combat, but during conversations their lips move and no sound. Still music and ambient sounds, just no dialogue sounds. I have checked the audio options and made sure "mute dialogue" is not checked. Beyond that, not sure what could be causing the problem. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

EDIT: I disabled all but dialogue sound and turned my volume way up, and noticed that I can, in fact, hear dialogue. however, it's about as audible as somebody whispering from the other end of an aircraft hangar. has an echoey quality to it. So, basically, there is sound, but it's very, very faint.

In the Audio options try to check the box "Force stereo sound" and see if it makes a difference.

Hmmm ... what sound card do you have and is it up-to-date with drivers?

Try the Force Stereo Sound in the Audio setting in the config tool thingie ... you start it from the launcher :bandit:

Edit: Darn it ..backstabbed :bandit::ph34r::devil:

The demo had a problem where the in game sound was very quiet and cinematic sound is really loud.
To simply put the problem.
I havent fixed it yet tho... but it should be ok in the final game - i hope.

force stereo sound worked, thanks. now all that's left to do is to wait for the actual game to come out!

This is due to the fact that some of the cut scenes in the demo (like the one from Lothering to Kirkwall) are not in game cutscenes but pre-rendered videos -- audio included -- so they completely ignore your volume settings. This was done to simplify the demo process and because they had to cut actual gameplay between Lothering and Kirkwall.

Edit: Clarifying. For the final game, Bink movies will still be used but due to  the localization the audio going over the movies will be from the game engine itself (and not directly integrated in the movies like it's the case in the demo  -- it was the same for DA:O). So in this case your volume settings will be enforced and the cutscenes will be the same volume as normal game.

I'm having an odd problem. The only character I can't seem to hear is Wesley. Cinematics, his voice is fine, otherwise I can't hear him-- even if I stop and talk to him.

You mean, only when you right-click on him? Missing audio files. Same thing happens to me. It appears they just forgot to include some of Wesley's audio files in the demo. Shouldn't happen in full game.

This is a thread about the Demo of DA2, for the PC. You need your own post with appropriate information about what you were doing before the symptom appeared, etc. (And if you aren't dealing with an Xbox360 DEMO, you are off topic in the Demo forum.)

Dialog goes through the center speaker. If you have a surround system, make sure the center speaker is working correctly. If you have a stereo setup, enable 'force stereo' in the audio settings.
