Of course, couldn't be they wanted to give them personalised armor and a unique look and body type rather than generic NPC armor. Nope absolutely every decision they make is purely about charging people more fo DLCs with no other reason whatsoever.

Why not place companion specific sets of armor throughout the world or tie it to rewards for completing certain quests or something?  More loot, more fun.  Less options, less fun.

You're so going to eat those words when the first DLC appearance pack is announced. :P

Whining got the inventory and Mako removed from Mass Effect, the difficulty nerfed in Origins and the dialogue wheel put in the sequel.  It seems to work with Bioware!

The fact that they were bad is what got them removed.

Unique looking characters > Managing an entire parties worth of armour

I've never enjoyed managing equipment for other characters. It's fun when you can customize your own stuff, but not when you have to sort and manage 10 different sets of equipment. There are better things for Bioware to spend their dev time on then making one set of armour fit every NPC.

Plus look at how awesome the characters look in DA2. The benefits of the approach they took for this game are obvious.

Having played ME1 at least 3-4 times, losing the Mako was a godsend. Ditto on not having to omnigel every miserable and utterly useless item that I never wanted. But I don't want to get into that argument over the limited number of valuable weapons and multiple iterations (I-X, etc.) again - got tired of that a while back in the ME2 forums.

No I’m not, they probably will eventually get around to making and releasing dlc armor for them, this isn't an issue and doesn’t mean the only reason they did this is "OMG profit!!”.
I much prefer having each character look unique and have a unique body type than being able play dressup with my companions using generic and bland armor. That they could potentially make more money later is good thing but not necessarily the only or main reason for doing this.

As for why not make more set of companion armor, this is where it is about money. Every unique armor they make takes time, work and money. They don’t just magic it into existence someone has to take the time to design and make the thing. Time and money that could be better spent elsewhere.

What happened to the horrendous textures?  Why weren't they removed?  Cutting things because of lazy game design is much worse than improving things.

They probably did it so we can't run our whole party around with no clothes on. Don't lie, you've done it.

Unless you can still take their armor off. I dunno.

Atleast the first pack in ME2 was horrible. This new one looks to be better.

But you know, I rather have DLC that stays with me the WHOLE game, than some stupid mini adventure that doesn't give me much anything. :)

Or maybe the armor that they want the other characters to wear at certain points is already in the game and they simply want us to let them seem more real.

Way preferrable to clown patchwork armour and having daddy Warden telling his companions what ot wear, imo. You can still pick out runes and a few other things, far as I'm aware.

I don't know if thats the only reason they did but I'm sure it certainly is one reason. I don't think anyone will be surprised when the alternate appearance dlc packs hit.

And I don't buy the they did it to just give the companion their own look. They could have done that as well as given each companion member a few different types of armour as well (maybe tied to their personal quests or something) as well. Instead we'll have to pay for it....

That's great!

Seriously, I hate spending my time, "Oh. Another Leather Helm. Yay. Oh. I got Dwarven Armor of Kick-Ass. Sweet! Inventory full. @#$% What do I throw out? Let's spend the next five minutes comparing my armor so I can throw out the worst one." After ten minutes go by, "Hey, a long sword. Inventory full of course. What was the second worst piece of equipment I had? ...... #*$@(*)&$)@&$()@$@_((!!!!!! I forgot. Now, I have to spend another five minutes figuring out what my worse piece of equipment! #P($(#&%($@$@$@(*)$()@&(@$_@)#*!(@!_()$#*!!!!!!!! THAT LONG SWORD IS WORSE THAN ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!"

I honestly would rather spend time playing the game rather than figuring out if this new piece of armor is good or not. I know some people love micro-managing. But I don't.

As for looks, what's the complaint as long as they look cool? I mean it's better than everyone looking the same. I'd rather my people look distinct than being able to change into armor that looks like armor that everyone else is wearing.

I hadn't even thought of this. now, I am excited.

Yeah, not liking this at all. Character customization and loot has always been one of my favorite parts of RPG games.

There are tons of different reasons why, your one is valid

Other reasons

They rushed the game out and couldnt do all the art necessary to change your character's armor

They think their idea of what the character should look like is more important then the player's idea

Just two more

another reason are games are more streamline these days. simplier, faster, straight forawrd,  easier to pick up for causal gamers, etc.  can't imagine gamers that normally plays action games would like to spend too much time managing your parties' equipment.

At least they haven't gone for the all-in-one outfit for the PC character too: Bethesda started going down that route with the Shivering Isles and it does rather suck that you're stuck with one of a small number of a predefined outfits (unless you're prepared to roll your own with Blender, but few people want to do that).

Rogue armor and mage robes looked like crap in DA:O. If it takes the ME2 way of doing business to allow for all classes to look equally rad, I'm down for it.
