Really? We all know it's shorter, but part of the size difference is due to compression. Big whoop - there was even a Chris Priestly post explaining it. File size is not indicative of total gameplay time.

Next time try to understand better compression before posting.

The game is 20 hours shorter

Of course thats going to lower the amount of content required and lower the size of the game install

Does this include the High Res texture pack? Either way, who cares about file size.

Exactly, the gigabyte size does not necessarily have a set correlation on replayability. Please keep your pitchforks in the closet until March 8th. Then we can go nuts. :P

FFS they use better compressing methods.

From what I remember they're using a high end compression program to compress the entire game into a more manageable size. Likewise, this also extends to every part of the game as a whole. The Priestly quote that was mentioned about, though I don't have it on hand, mentioned that a lot of things were compressed to leave less of a foot print in the game itself. (The biggest example being that the footprint of most environments is 75% less than they would be uncompressed. This really adds up over time.)

Disk space does not mean anything when it comes to length.
Oblivion GOTY with all official DLCs and a few mods only takes 6gb. And how much time does it take to finish that game completly? And it is by far a much bigger world than DA2 or DAO. So yeah disk space does not mean anything. It just means the developers took the time to compress it down. Take Star Wars Force Unleashed as an example for how to not release a game. It take bloody 29gb space! Im not kidding. And that is only a 6-8 hour game. Even if DA2 is 20 hours or 50, it's fine if it is good. Still much more for your money than games like God of War that takes 7 hours of your life and has almost no replayability, While most rpgs has 5 to 10 times that amount of game time, for the same price of one God of war game.

Last note: Don't get me wrong, i really like God of War, it's just an example of how much value you get for your money when buying an RPG game compared to the big action games. But i digress, just don't judge a game by it's disk space size. Check out a small game called KKrieger. Now that is compression at its finest.

Edit: Ops, KKrieger is not about compression, its more about streaming the data through your RAM or something like that, but nevertheless, it still shows you can get lots of graphics that does not require much space.

Could this "compression" everyone is referring to be the same thing as "recycled environments" being referenced in multiple reviews?
