There are multiple threads on this topic that contain links to the interview. In one instance he is quoted as saying this in response to people like me having problems with DA2...

"It doesn't tell the usual fantasy story or present the usual fantasy combat, and in doing so it does run the risk of someone going, "Wow, this is just too different and I cannot handle it."

Translation...I'm old and outdated and lack the ability to deal with change. That's an insult!

Oh come on! Are you going to act as if you've never heard about his comments in those interviews? I find that very hard to believe for someone so quick to challange my comments.

For more...read the interview.

Oh I am very familiar with those threads...and interviews. Posted in several of them and was never given any response when asking where he was actually commiting the travesty that people make him out to be commiting. I on the other hand posted a very large response in providing quotes where he says quite the oppoiste (that they are taking feedback seriously...that DA2 is not perfect...that they are going to go back to equipping companions, hence listening to the feedback....etc...Ill post it here if I can find it.)

Even the one example you posted is a prime example in my opinion of reading way too much into what he is saying. Could it have been said a little differently? I think so. But its hardly an insult. People are angry and want someone to crucify for this "travesty" that is a video game.

I believe I'm intelligent enough to decide for myself when I feel as though I've been insulted. Further, I am quite capable of gauging my own reactions as I see fit. You may not feel as though those comments were insults or thinly veild jabs at DAO, and that's fine. That dosen't change the fact that many others read it differently. You cannot decide for others how they should feel or react. Generalizing everyone with problems with DA2 as some sort of mob out for blood is ridiculous.  You disagree...leave it at that. I'm secure enough in my own opinions that I don't need to tell someone how they should feel or react to statements I disagree with.

How dare you think for yourself! EA demands that you bend over and take it like a champ or they'll take away your games!

Mike Laidlaw does seem like a nice guy. I've never met him, but I sure hope he isn't in a senior design position in another game after DA 2. Sorry Mike.

"Mike Laidlaw, you sir, are awesome."

Considering he's almost single-handedly destroyed the DA franchise, that statement made me sick. If EA had any sense, they'd do what ever they could to rehire Knowles, let him take direction and kick Laidlaw to the curb where he belongs.

Want proof? Sales figure comparison...

Dragon Age: Origins

XBOX 360

I liked DA:O and I love DA:2 so give Mike Laidlaw a raise and tell him to keep on keeping on. Fix the bugs that are there, thanks to EA rushing it out. Other than that, best game of 2011!

LSD peppered with crushed crack rocks layered with acids, and a very special ingredient unbriddled fanboyism. And of course, a healthy dose of AWESOME.

PS: Just joking kids drugs are bad for you. If you want to grow strong bones and grow up to be a lead designer like Mr Laidlaw, you need at least 5 daily portions of AWESOME. DA2 is a good source of AWESOME, ONE MORE WAVE of enemies gives you 48% of your daily dose of AWESOME.

First of all, I never insinuated anything about your intelligence. Being insulted has more to do with your feelings than with your intellect. You can gauge your reactions however you would like but that does not make your reactions warrented of justified. To make a comment like "He bashes DA:O (when he doesn't) and he insults its fans" is a bit harsh don't you think? If you want to be insulted by the comment he made, then that is up to you. But that does not mean he is the retard/jerk that people are making him out to be.....just because you were insulted by something he said.

And I NEVER generalized poeple with problems with DA2 as a sort of mob. Ever. You know why? Because I too have problems with DA2, and that would be putting myself in that category. I was clearly refering to the people in this thread and others that have made brash self entitled posts about how he should be fired etc, along with posting inappropriate images all because they were insulted by something he said and that they think he "ruined" their precious. Its absurd and quite disgusting. People really need to get some perspective.

I think I've made myself quite clear. It's obvious to me that your only motivation here is to challenge ANYONE who does not agree that DA2 is the greatest thing since the discovery of fire! I have no problem agreeing to disagree. I do however take issue with pointless debates and challenges simply because someone needs to argue. You are welcomed to your opinions. There is no need to continue this particular discussion. My part in it ends here.

He might do well if the lead designer of a pure action title or a shooter. But from the sound of it, he doesn't appear to be a fan of RPGs. As such he was probably a poor choice to 'upgrade' the Dragon Age series.

Where have I said ANYTHING to support that massive assumption you are trying to make? Did you miss the part where I said that I have problems with DA2 also?

I can definitely agree to disagree. I do it all the time on these forums with people. But I have never once tried to force my opinions down others throats.

So debating about what the Lead Designer's comments mean on the the games official forums is pointless...but mindless bashing and spam posting of said Lead Designer on a thread made to appreciate him by a fan is....what exactly?

If you feel the discussion is pointless, then that is fine. You are welcome not to continue. But I do not share the same opinion.

Baelyn, forget about the haters. Haters gonna hate. Funny thing is they are all still posting on a forum for a game they supposedly hate. Talk about irony. Speaks volumes. Game was released with a lot of bugs. Not Laidlaw's fault. Point your fingers where they belong or QQ more.

You do realize that there are multiple forums here right, some for games we also love? Dragon Age: Origins, both Mass Effect games, Baldur's Gate, and KOTOR were among my favorite games of the last ten years. The lackluster DA sequel doesn't diminish my love for those games, so why should I quit the forums?

I'm happy that the so-called 'haters' have been venting so much on the forums. They represent the majority of the people who played Dragon Age 2. Those that think it was a better game than it's predecessor are in the minority. Bioware needs to pay attention to all the negative feedback and make sure they don't make the same mistakes with DA3. That is of course assuming there will be a DA3 after this turkey.

AAA game came out with a laundry list of bugs.

And you keep defending it.

Since when is hate and disapointmenet the same thing? Generalizing the disappointment people feel as hate also speaks volumes.
