Are there any public domain models that could be cobbled together and massaged into shape?

Can Blender be used for this?

I'm supprised to see so much activity here when the Citadel forums have been dead for over a month. If anyone would be so inclined I posted a design doc with all the dialog for the opening chapter and I could use some help with writing/proofreading. The post is under the intro topic.

On a side note, for those of you who are students, Autodesk offers free student versions of all of their software including studio max. So if your interested in trying your hand with modeling go for it.

I'd be willing to try it if I didn't know the second I spent a week relearning it a real modeller would show up and do it properly. I'm gonna focus on my module submission for this project cause I still think theres time. Tried to post on citadel too but it says I wasn't logged in don't remember how I did it.

That is way more work than it needs to be.

Solution: don't use the journal. It's not like our little mini modules require detailed addendums to the general goal. Surely the player can remember one npc coming up and saying " holy s**t pickles batman, a giant wyven is eating all the children! We must kill it and find the key to the treasure chest in it's innards!" And if they cant... well the hell with them.

To hell with them all!

Most of the work I have put in uses journal entries to mark progress. I suspect this is the same for my co writer. I would not want to drop journals at this stage. It would eb e lot more work than my cutting and pasting what I've down into some form of spreadsheet.

I have a crappy memory, especially when juggling quests. I need some way of keeping track of goals, details, and progress when I play a game.

I leave the secretaries back in the oval for my hero's welcome when I'm out commandering Presidential style.  They last longer that way.

If you're bit of the plot is not aiming to be intentionally vague or "blurry", I would highly recommend using the journal. Players expect it for various reasons, and will complain vociferously if it's not there or unclear (unless but sometimes even if it's intentionally unclear). Don't forget, players don't have to read a journal if they don't want.

I highly recommend picking up a wall street journal or maxim if you want to read during my events :)

I agree with Kamal_ the journal is a tool for the player that they may use or not. I personally find it useful as I do not pay long mods in one or two hits but can take weeks over one sometimes with long breaks. A good journal is a huge plus for me.

We, as the modder, know the story we are playing out. There are many ways to project it to the player but it has to be done. The journal is the most clear tool for this purpose that I know.

I personally realy dislike modders who try to be more intelligent than me (heck most of them are) I don't want to be solving impossible puzzles, working out plot twists, or remembering what the inkeeper told me three nights ago (at the same time as my wife was telling me what I'd forgotten at the shops). I'm too lazy half the time. I just want to be entertained and have someone else make the important notes for me. Some people love that sort of thing. In that case it's thier choice not to press the J key.

I use the journal as a development tool as well but that's a separate issue.

So, for me, dropping the journal would be a bad thing. I think it would detract form the overall product.

I have setup the spreadsheet and will be more than happy to setup the journal for the campaign.

I feel it is an important tool. Not all side quest need an entry but I as well as a few others (from above post) would recommend it. Plot quest need to have journal entries. We are trying to create a well designed and implemented community campaign and a decent journal is part of that. A few post back we were considering changing the main bad guy if we can't find the perfect model, why are we considering cheeping out on the journal. It should be part of the release.

What format do you want for the spreadsheet?  Does it need to be excel or will an open office document work as well?

PJ and I have journal entries in our mod and based on the comments here I think only Eguintir is thinking of foregoing a journal.  I played Islander and it was a very good campaign, so I trust that Eguintir knows what he is doing.

Keep in mind that this is one of the biggest demographic here, so we need to appeal to them.  We probably need to throw in some new kids on the block references to satisfy them as well.
