I want to do a mage, but I want Bethany for playthrough one. So do I do a Rogue or a Warrior? An Archer or a Stabber?

My way out though, is this; a friend of mine can't afford it, and as he's giving a lift to get it, he gets to pick the first class. I can then do the other option on my own. And then do the mage.

I have been waffling.  Rogue, because I always play rogue first?  Mage because of the dps?  2 Hander Warrior for the AoE?

Then it struck me, if *I* pick up the dreaded sword and board... then I have one more slot for all those lovely dps classes of companion.  I am sure Avaline would be interesting, but... I gotta leave SOMEONE out....

I believe I'll play three games simultaneously...

I was on the fence about doing this.

I may end up rolling Rogue and Mage at the same time.

I want to be FemHawke. I want to play on Nightmare. I want Bethany in my party. I want to romance Isabella. So that all means I should play a warrior or rogue. But S&S lacks the "coolness" factor and 2h just looks a little ridiculous for a slightly built lady. DW rogue is awesome but I don't think it's a good idea to have two of those in a party for a Nightmare playthrough. And archers are wusses, standing at the back flinging bits of wood at people. Ponces. So that leaves me with... struggling to get over my irrational prejudices.

I always go mage first. Not getting Bethany gave me pause for a while, but I got over it. I just love mages the most.
I'm more unsure about which gender to go for. I want to romance Merrill, so I'll probably go for a male Hawke, but that's a moot point if she is indeed bi.

I'm still on the fence whether I should go 2H or WnS. I want my first playthrough to be on Nightmare, but with that I'm reading it's a nightmare to play 2H on Nightmare. But I'm definitely rolling Warrior, no doubt about that.

Warriors suck because a mage and a rogue could beat them 1v1, and mages can shoot cool stuff out of nowhere making them automatically better than rogues!

LOL? Those daggers and all that jumping around gimmick isn't even going to scratch a well-built Warrior, who by the way is immune to flanking, critical hits, knockbacks, interrupts, etc. Warrior>Rogue>Mage>Warrior. It's always been like that in RPGs.

The aoe from 2-h warrior's long reach seriously messes you up. Though if you're looking for an extra challenge....heh.

Mine was picked for me. Was set to go with a male warrior but then I made Hadrian (guy in my avatar) and grew attached. I can't see him as anything other than a DW Rogue so that's what I'll be playing.

Either Mage for going Old Testament on people and calling down fire, or Rogue, so I don't need to have Isabella or Varric in my party. Decisions...

I typically always play warriors for my first playthrough, but I almost feel like the game will be more intriguing as a mage, plus after playing the demo, I can't stand Bethany. I don't know if it was the VA or what, but there were some definite times where I wanted to punch her.

count me in. I can't decide. Ive played the demo so many times that i lost count. A male is a fact for me so far. As for class.... clueless. I want bethany but i want mage! but mage armor might be a bit lacking compared to a warrior's. Archers are fun and sword and shield warriors are interesting.. AGHHH

I'm stuck between mage (healer) and warrior (tanking) atm. I'm kind of tempted to do my first run siding with Templars with a mage to see how that works out but I really like want that new sexy templar armor :/

My suggestion: If you're well and truly on the fence, play the exaggerated prologue with each class to try them all out at late-game strength and see which one you like the hands-on feel of best.

I was certain I'd pick Mage, but then I saw the Warrior specializations... now I can't decide. >.>

@ Seb:  Good point, but I like 2H and magic almost equally... I found the exaggerated portion for Mage to be most appealing due to the power levels exhibited, but then... Berserker and Reaver just sound so cool...  argh... I can't choose.  >.>

Mage (damage) first.
Rogue (archer) second.
Warrior (two-handed) third.

I did that and it only made things worse! I ruled out mage before getting the demo based on my habit of pretty much never playing casters but then I had a lot of fun with mage in the demo.

My inclination is always to play a high dps melee class (preferably with dual wielding), but the demo made archers and mages more appealing to me and now I'm just torn.

Before the demo, I was going mage 100%. That changed after playing the demo and "the exaggerated prologue with each class".

Yup. Originally planned mage, but big two-handed swords are cool too, and also rogue that i have to play with of both dual-wielding and archery focused...

Well, my sneaky snipy assassin type has always provided most fun playtroughs in every game i've played her with (most lately New Vegas), might as well see how well she works in DA2 first. So an archer rogue it is!

I can't choose between a mage or rogue for the first playthrough. After playing the demo, I really wanted to play a rogue first because of the jumping around high speed sort of style that DAO rogues lacked. However, my character was a female in DAO, so I want to have a male character first for DA2, but for some reason I just think the rogue class fits a female character better. Also, which sibling do I want? So I'm leaning toward female rogue or male mage. Just depends which one I want first...
