Going with the good old sword and board first go-round. After trying out Assault in the Kirkwall portion of the demo, I was totally sold on it. Felt like such a badass.

What class I'll be playing second, though... is a different matter entirely.

Yeah I'm having a tough choice between archer and DW. Both are really fun to play.

The demo really proved to me that the only spec I won't play is Sword and Board. I'm most likely to play as a 2H warrior first playthrough with the potential I do a simultaneous run as a mage.

i was planning on making a high-damage archer rogue. then i realized varric fills that role in very very well. Oh well...Archer skills werent for damage anyway, player-archers are more aoe than raw dps.

It sucks that there is a subtle preference for the player to be melee-based.

Ranged Rogue seems nice, but so does mage and two handed warrior. Actually, Sword and Shield warrior doesn't seem too bad either. Now, when I think about it... dagger rogue seems kinda cool as well.

I don't care about Hawke's class, I am just wondering if I should go with Beth or Carver in my first.

Mage or Rouge, can't decide which one though. I'll probably close my eyes and pull a class out of a hat...

My suggestion: If you're well and truly on the fence, play the exaggerated prologue with each class to try them all out at late-game strength and see which one you like the hands-on feel of best.

What if we've done this and they all still seem pretty boss?

I still don't what I'm gonna do, but I suspect it'll come down to meta-gaming. Sword and shield doesn't interest me because I don't like the way Shield Wall or whatever makes auto-attacks, but other than that, eh... I'm thinking mage, but I'm ALSO thinking that I'll want Merrill and Fenris in my party. I love archery in the demo, but I might like Sebastion or Varric and want them in my party. And Fenris is just very nice-looking, do I don't need to be getting my 2H warrior on. Decisions, decisions.

I'm torn between mage and rogue, but I think I'm leaning more towards mage.

im with you
but really my only restriction is that i get to use my special sword that gamestop's giving me
so its either warrior or rouge

Rogues can't use swords

well that makes no sense
regardless i guess it means im gonna be a warrior

yeah thats where I'm stuck - love being a mage, but particularly on the first playthrough I'm worried they may prove to be squishy

Mage only if I'll be able to play a melee build somehow. I'm still hoping for cross-classing, obviously. :)

Let me make it simple for you. Mages are little girls. Now you don't have to waste time wondering about gender and can go straight to being a WARRIOR like every true hero is!

WHAT? Everyone knows that most heroes have magic!

Definitely going 2H warrior. Problem is Merrill is going to be my LI so she will be in the party pretty much all the time and I will want Bethany around most of the time (sibling duo B)). That only leaves the tanking spot and Aveline is really the only optimal choice there.

That doesn't really leave room for a rogue and their lockpicking skills. :(

I may have to take up a sword and shield and fill that tanking role myself. Bah.

I flipped 24 coins at once to pick mine. First two times was a tie but the third time was 13-11 in favor of SnS warrior.

*raises hand*

I can't decide between DW rogue or mage. I can't decide. I'd probably figure out when I smell my new copy of the game on Tuesday. I mostly want to play mage cuz of Carver but I'm a melee combat type of gal so I'll probably end up choosing DW rogue.

or I don't know~ ugh!

I've always considered myself a mage type person and usually play them in most games including DA:O. I really liked the mage class in the demo too. But the problem I have is that being a mage makes Bethany bite the dust at the start of the game. I have a little sister IRL and my big brother instincts keep kicking in and are really making this choice harder than it should be. I may have to be a.... blech... rogue.

DAMN YOU BIOWARE!

Im going archer for my first run - until I work out how to make enough gold to get the best tanking armour (and find the bloody stuff of course) Aveline with her auto-upgrade armour will out-tank me.

Second run through (once I know where all the shinies are) will be Sword and Board tank.

I'm already set - I want Carver in my team for the conflict he can bring to the story, so mage it is. Besides, it kinda kicks ass being able to set jackasses on fire.

No, everyone knows heros usually have some wussy sidekick that casts magic though.

In all likelihood I'm going to play three characters to through the first five or so levels simultaneously then decide who to stick with through the end first.  I like having one in my party at all times, but I've just never been able to get into playing a Rogue in practically any game.  So I'll be rolling both warrior types and a mage then just seeing which one I'll stick with.  It helps that I have a pretty busy schedule the first week, then the following week I have allot more free time to delve into whichever one strikes my fancy from dabbling for the first few days.

Leaning towards 2H warrior first though.  Bethany seems much more pleasant than Carver.  I also have younger sisters in real life, and Carvers attitude is probably coloring my opinion of him from the demo.  I am really interested to see that more antagonistic sibling relationship play out in the game though.
