Were you rivals with her, though?

In any case, Merrill doesn't seem underage. She looks like any number of fashion models, and acts like my friend's 24 year old girlfriend, and in fact all her friends.

...well, other than the naivete. Sometimes I think Merrill is putting us on, though. "Why is this called a brothal?"

No - not rivals.

Both have disadvantages. It's really hard to believe that Isabela has any standards. But I guess, she's a better choice, more interesting.
Merrill's babbling after Tali looks too familiar. If you choose exile option with Tali, they actually look like twins.

Merrill looks like the offspring of a skinny human and a bunny. All elves do actually. Ears are way too big.

For a heterosexual male character who isn't into alien looking 12 year olds the choices are rather slim. I mean even the Blooming Rose doesn't have anything on it's menu.

The rivalmances seem to make a huge difference in terms of depth of character.
When you disagree with your lover, it causes them to re-examine themselves. When you agree, everybody's just :wub::wub: in a  fashion.

Rivalmances felt to me like Bioware felt obliged to put a romance at either end of the scale just so nobody would miss them, they're a nice idea but I feel the approval system needs alot more refining before "negative approval" romances work.

Anyway, Isabela's my favourite. I think it may have something to do with a friend not being able to turn Merrill away from you-know-what (damn rivalmancers ruining my fun..), but mainly it's because Isabela's just so cool. Sheryl seems to have a knack for writing characters I fall for, it's happened in all DAs so far (including Awakening), it's a frightening, unholy power she has.

Are there certain chars she's written?  Can you name some of them?  I have developed strong attachments to certain chars also in the series - while being completely disinterested in others.

Leliana, Dog, and Sigrun, for starters.

Answers! I'm not mad for Wynne but it's still a good ratio of characters I like.

I can't stand Isabella. Even when she opens up she is still someone I don't care for. Merrill while foolish does try to help her clan out.

How DARE you good sir!

Sigrun was one of my faves from Awakening.

Isabela. Even if she seems ****ty at first, which she is, she eventually gives her heart to you. Sexiest love interest since Morrigan. Adventurous, Kinky, Pirate Chick all the way! <3

Merrill's personality is too much for me. Even though I may find it somewhat cute, I also find it somewhat annoying. She is also very naiive to the evil that comes with blood magic and the mirror she seeks to restore that Duncan broke for a reason. Maybe I'll romance her in another playthrough but Isabella is my carryover to DAIII.

I find all the other romance options terrible, and won't even bother.
