The Icewind Dale games were indeed made by Black Isle (devs from which then founded Obsidian) using BioWare's Infinity Engine.

Ironically, the marketing on Dragon Age was what I didn't like . The Sacred Ashes trailer looked more like something I would expect for a cheap MMO. The whole fixation on blood, violence and sex left me dubious as to whether the story would hold up or if the game would be a shallow experience. Also, they brandished the Baldur's Gate flag on Dragon Age, which generates a lot of expectation.

I've been a long time fan of BioWare's games, but frankly Mass Effect left me a bit cold. It was a pretty good game overall, but it felt very unequal in quality at times.

In any event, there are so few real RPGs on the market these days that DAO was pretty much a sure buy whatever happens. So far I'm extremely pleased with it; it's the best experience I've had since KotOR.

I got the game becasue Bioware makes epic rpgs, Been playing since they released Baldur's Gate part one, played the entire saga Baldur's Gate 2 Shadows Of Amn and Throne of Bhaal this game comes extreamly close to that greatness. I am very happy that they have gone back to the fantasy world, Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Kotor and neverwinter nights are very good rpgs, but Baldur's Gate was their best work i feel and Dragon age has restored that feeling. Don't stop the greatness Bioware :D.. I have been a fan since Baldur's Gate a game that came out when rpgs for the pc were fading away, Great job so far Bioware :D..

I play almost every PC RPG there is. I own a long list, like the mythical Planescape Torment and the unsurpassed Baldurs gate 2. Dragon Age is an other in thet line and a good attempt to better BG2. It did not succeed in that but still is worthy. I just miss those D&D rules to much.

Brand loyality. Bioware = wonderful storyline, depth, pure escapism.

I alsodidn't like the marketing much, especially the trailers were far from exciting. But I know Bioware, and again they haven't disappointed.

In my opinion Bioware has yet to release a bad game. I will continue to buy their games on release day because I trust their brand. Every game I have played from them has been fantastic and provided me with many many hours of enjoyment.

Plus I own BG 1+ 2 with expansions, NwN 1+2 with expansions, IWD 1+2 with expansions, Planescape Torment, ME and soon to be ME 2, ext.

So DA:O was a no brainer for me.

I like the Medieval time-frame for games; it is much too easy to pull out a gun and blow something away. These types of games require more cunning.

I am somewhat disappointed on the way that fighting is performed. I would like a little more involvement in the outcome than just to click once and sit back to see how i fair; throwing a little buff in once in a while. Gothic III and Oblivion are more what I was looking for, fighting wise. But this does have a better story line and quality not seen in others.

My first taste of Bioware excellence was Baldur's Gate 2. I picked it up purely on a whim and it turned out to be one of the most memorable game experiences of my life. Since then, I've always kept an eye out for Bioware games and made it a point to buy them. NWN, KOTOR, Jade Empire and Mass Effect are all sitting on my game shelf.

Dragon Age had been on my radar for a while. I was especially intrigued by the fantasy setting, the return to their roots and the tactical, isometric interface. The advertising was a bit gory for my liking but I knew that it was just a sales pitch for the current gamer's market. Bioware has a great track record and I knew they wouldn't disappoint.

Ditto for me too.  I find that I can usually loose myself in a Bioware game and allow it to take me away from the stress of the day for a few hours. Bioware are the only company that have consistently been able to do this for me and so I will continue to purchase their games.

I think the marketing was a little excessive (all the preorder stuff in particaular) but I guess that was more due to EA than Bioware.  Trying to be positive about it though it may have attracted more people to play the game, which should bodes well for future releases.

Bioware have owned my soul since Baldurs gate was released and I played it all the time with my Dad and brother.

To date I've played Baldurs gate 1 & 2, Neverwinter nights, KotOR 1&2, Mass Effect, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment.

When I read an article about it in some game magazine and it was described as the spiritual sequel to the Baldurs gate games a year or so ago, I've been stalking it. Not to mention watching the Wardens Quest really got me hyped about it. If I had thought about it and had the money, I would have to to London to watch it in person~

And how long has it been since a decent length, well made rpg came out? I loved Mass Effect but I got completionist in a 32 hour sitting =(

Because Bioware has been my favourite developer for a long time.

It's just a letdown they didn't have a multiplayer aspect in Dragon Age.

So far I've got pretty much every Bioware game since Shattered Steel and I'll keep buying each new Bioware game on release day until they make at least one that I don't like. Has not happened so far. When it comes to RPGs, they're pretty much the only company left that produces them in good quality. So, yay for Bioware. Not even the affiliation with EA can make me not buy their games. And that's really saying something.

Well, basically because I love rpg games.

Morrowind

Gothic 1 2 3

Nwn 1

The Witcher

Mass effect

Sadly I didn't get to play baldurs gate, kotor or any of the other. I was to young so to speak.

And playing those games now, doesn't create that fine nostalgic experience.

My wife actually drew my attention to it. She said it looked like it was a pretty neat game, because she saw a friend playing it and she said that we might be interested in it.

She was right, despite some bugs that players were forced to resolve themselves, no thanks to bioware in that area, the game turned out to be pretty good.

I am pretty sick of EA and the mircopayment crap to milk every last dime they can out of players, but what can you do? EA = money sucking vampires.

I hope Bioware stays away from EA with future endeavors, but looks like EA hooked Dragon Age from now on.

EA acquired Bioware a few years ago, and their funding has shown in Biowares games.  The DLC (more good than bad imo), marketing, and quest-giving salesman (which I didn't encounter due to buying the DLC before even playing), are small prices to pay for the level of quality coming out of their AAA titles.

Besides, stuff like the Wardens Quest was great and really got me pumped for the game, so stuff like Marilyn Manson is negligible.

I totally agree with the statements about EA, DLC and micropayments. All these are straight annoyances, and I don't think EA has done Bioware any good, besides of course a lot of cash for the marketing and advertising. All I can say about it is that EA tried their best to ruin DA with that stuff, but they didn't suceed because, well, Bioware's games are just too good. I hope it won't get any worse than this and Bioware will continue not to disappoint, even if the publisher wants to milk the player cow as much as they can.

I had been unaware that EA has purchased Bioware. That makes me a little sad.

Personally, I think $7.00 US is ridiculous for a small addition of content like Warden's Keep. Perhaps if it was 40% or 50% of that cost I'd find it more reasonable, but currently I do not.

I enjoyed the Sims titles from EA until Sims 3 as well. Sims 3 is vastly superior in most areas to their previous incarnations, but having to spend anywhere from $5 to $20 dollars for additions to the game is ridiculous.

Micropayments are a determent to my personal purchases of any game.

The worst thing is that by the time a couple years pass and average joe gamer has purchased all the DLC they won't even realize how much they've actually spent on this game.

The simple solution is quite simple really.

Don't buy any MT's.
