There is no solution to principle.
So why did you buy this game?

I bought this game because Bioware is one of my favorite developers out there, they have yet to let me down with their creations. BG2 was my introduction to RPG gaming when it came out. I was fairly young then, so didn't have the background with RPGs I do now, and that game completely blew me away (and still does). Since then I have played BG1, its expansion, BG2 and its expansion, Neverwinter nights + 2 expansions, and Mass effect in terms of Bioware titles. Not a big Star Wars fan, so I skipped the KOTORs.

Bought it because of all the 5 star 9/10 ratings.

I was hoping to get a RPG that would come close to or exceed BG2 which is still my favorite PC game in about 20 years of PC gaming.

Because..Bioware. That's all you need to know.
This game caught me by surprise actually: "Bioware, Medieval, Fantasy setting? DO WANT"
I only learnt of it about a month before release, gave me enough time to order a graphics card though.

I bought this game for one reason, because Bioware made it.

Because I needed to spend some time while waiting for Witcher2, and I wanted to try a GOOD RPG (never played a game like this, so I really wanted a good one to prevent dissappointment
) and I saw a preview on this one, I gave it a try, and now I forgot all about other games

I like games from Bioware.
They never disappoint.

Because it is an RPG and I consume those. Doesn't hurt that it is from Bioware either.

Because BioWare owns my poor soul (please don't ever break my heart, BioWare!). Mass Effect, KOTOR, and Jade Empire have all owned me at some point.
I got it because I expected cool character development, lots of neat stuff to do, and the trademark awesome that is BioWare games. They seem to be a company that creates the sort of game I'd want to create if I made games. It's a company with a lot of brilliant creative people who I know give me what I enjoy.
So far I'm not disappointed. The one thing that this game lacks that ME had was the PC voice acting - Commander Shepard ruled because there was a voice, a personality. I kinda miss that. On the other hand, the voice acting of all the other characters in DAO is top notch, so I can't complain too much. To be fair, DAO gives so many options that trying to do voices for all of them may have been cost prohibative. There's a lot more interaction between characters, which I'd rather have over PC voice acting (although if I could have both...!).
I've been sitting in MMO land since ME, and frankly, it's nice to get back into an RPG where it's not just grinding but that there's STORY.

Cause the voices in my head said they would kill me if I didn't. this is why you must listen to the voices, They hold you hostage you know. I secretly think they work for bioware...

Because it's from BioWare. I think only one BioWare game doesn't appeal to me, but then again, it doesn't matter to me because I don't have a DS.

BioWare, that's why. Although I long for the times when I Multi played BG with the Black Church Guild and wish multi play could be incorporated into DAO

To be honest, I bought it on brand recognition alone. I wasn't really convinced by the marketing, but I took the gamble that it would be a quality Bioware game and I wasn't disappointed.
Bioware games just sell themselves.

Like most of you, I've played every Bioware game to hit the PC. The only one I didn't like, was Jade Empire, which I actually thought was quite subpar, purely because of its combat system.

Because it was made by Bioware. Every game they've made has been excellent in one way or another, and until they make a dud, all it takes for me to buy is to know they made it. I paid no attention to the marketing or anything else beyond being aware that a new Bioware RPG was coming out.
I, too, am glad to see a return to RPG's in the style of the Infinity Engine games, where tactics and such made a huge difference. While KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect were all excellent, the tactical combat and challenging fights are something I missed about the IE games.

For the finishing move animations. Had this game not had this, I would not have purchased it unless it featured the same lock and fight style that NWN 1 and KOTOR had where weapons would touch each other often. I realize however this game also features this somewhat. As in the ocasional parry and block with both weapons meeting. But it feels way less interactive in that regard.
However, the combat does feel more visceral and intense with the clashing of weapons on armor and gory finishing move animations. This is the only reason I bought this game, the story was a refreshing surprise however. But I'll admit, Fereldan is a sucky landscape compared to the places I've read about and would have much prefered to be somewhere else.
Antiva, Tevinter Imperium, where the qunari people live.
Hell, the only reason to even show fereldan is because of Orzammar.
