Okay, so I recently purchased both Mass Effect 1 and 2 (PC version) from Amazon.com and got them both a few days ago. Both are installed on my laptop, problem is I don't know which class to pick.

I am not really a person that likes to charge in and kill everything on site. I prefer to hang out in the back and pick off shots, cast a few abilities here and there. My friend tried to get me to play as a Soldier in both 360 games, but, I find as much as I like the massive weapon choices, I like casting abilities too.

I like using, SMG's, Sniper Rifles and Biotics, I just can't figure out what class I'd prefer to play and stick with.

[Edit] Also, I plan to play on Casual because I'm not that great at shooters, even though I play Borderlands with my friend and have a level 25 Siren....

I'd recommend the Infiltrator. Possibly the best feature of this class is the "time dialation", similar to the soldier, you get everytime you zoom in with a sniper rifle. This of course being your main weapon is a very nice trick indeed! Plus, you get a tactical cloak, this allows you a boost to damage, but also to set up shots, flank enemies, etc. You don't get too many "powers" to throw down range, mostly buffs to your gun, but you will have access to AI hacking! All in all, I think you'd like it! Good luck!

Thank you so much, I was reading about that class and watching a few youtube videos and I think its the one class that I've been drawn to besides the one with Adrenaline Rush skill...I love that skill, but, I think its only on the Soldier, right?

Well the solider gets that as an activatable skill. The Infiltrator simply gets that slow down when looking through the zoom on a sniper rifle, which is their primary weapon :).

Adepts and Engineers are solid choices to stick with, especially if you will stay on casual. Here is another recent thread on how to build your Shepard; http://social.biowar...1/index/6358670

And I'll be happy to help as best I can.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. I'll play it in a few hours. Its like almost 5am EST...I need sleep. I'll be sure to keep you updated on my gameplay. That way if I need advice I know who to turn to. :)

There are many of us that are willing to share our experiences, and I can link other threads here to help you decide.

The beauty of ME1 and ME2 is how many variations can work with the different classes, with ME2 being more forgiving on builds, even on Insanity.

Happy Hunting : )

If you enjoy sniper rifles then Infiltrator is definitely worth considering. But if your going to stick to casual I also highly recommend Adept. You can have loads of fun toying with the enemy with your biotics in both games.

You could play an adept then. They get biotics and start out with Heavy Pistols and SMGs in ME2. Sniper Rifle training is available later in the game.

In ME1 adepts start out weak, but later in the game it's like having godmode enabled. In ME2 enemies have defenses that stop biotics. Defenses are very rare on lower difficulties, but on higher difficulties you need to combine abilities with precise shooting to make it work.

On casual though adepts will be able to control almost all enemies easily with biotics.

Also, I plan to play on Casual because I'm not that great at shooters, even though I play Borderlands with my friend and have a level 25 Siren....

Love that game. I have a max level siren myself. The last DLC is starting to annoy me though. I have spent quite a few HOURS killing claptraps for oil cans and pizzas, and I still haven't found enough.

I´d recommend Infiltrator, and maybe add a biotic power. Slam, reave or whatnot.
or as Termokanden wrote, adept, then train in sniper rifle =P

On lower levels of difficulty I'd suggest a biotic class. They're fun. If you plan on ever working your way up to Insanity go with the default soldier. When I say default I mean stock weapons (ie M8 Avenger) for the greatest challenge and to really learn how the game is played. From your description it sounds like you'd enjoy the Infiltrator/Engineer.

The Avenger is a peashooter though. You can limit yourself a bit by not using blatantly overpowered weapons but I wouldn't go that far personally. Maybe I'm not skilled enough, but I hate that gun :)

Believe me I'm far from creating my own video series of pwnage (looking @ thisisme) but somewhere along the line I put it in my head that 'default' insanity is how it supposed to be played. I'm trying to get to insanity+ but still haven't mastered insanity yet. I'm gimping myself by recruiting Mordin last ect. The Avenger is all about stripping shields and conserving ammo. I let Miranda or someone else finish them off.

Sure, but Miranda and [insert biotic squadmate] are all about warp bombs

My "dream team" so to speak is Miranda and Thane. Miri has Warp and Overload and Than has Warp and Throw. With two warps you can usually strip most base shields, or armor, and warp field really helps with crowd control. Especially with the Infiltrator I like this set up. When I play an Adept I usually swap Thane for Garrus or Grunt for a rifle user with heavy armor. Miri is a must anytime though! I'd recommend maxing out her Cerberus Agent early due to the squad health/damage buff.

Just going off of this, I would say stay away from Soldier and Vanguard.

If you like casting powers, Adept, Engineer and Sentinel are fun.
Infiltrator lets you hang back and pick off targers with the sniper rifle.

I am running through Hardcore as a Engineer and having a lot of fun. The drone and AI Hacking are great. Great crowd control.
I am going to run a Adept next, followed by Sentinel and Vanguard. Eventually, a infiltrator. Soldier is not my style.

I definitely dig casting abilities like yourself.

I've been playing that 360 version on Casual/Easy difficulty just so I could get used to playing shooters and thats acutally how I discovered how I like to play some shooters.

Yeah, the Vanguard ability Charge freaks me out a bit, because I do not like/enjoy being in the thick of battle. I for some strange reason get super nervous or confused and wind up quitting. My friend has helped me so far to not be as afraid to play so...Here's hoping I'll get better.

Yep, I cannot recommend Vanguard until you have gotten used to the game. Especially if you have little experience in shooters. Things get quite hectic with Vanguard very often. If not, then you're propably dead. But I definitely recommend giving it a try eventually. When and if you feel like you're up for more intense combat.

Yeah, I'd have to put in some serious time to play. I'm always, always, always, getting distracted by something or someone...

Another reason why I wanted to learn to play shooters is or the stress relief...hahaha

If you're not a fan of Charge then I'd stay away from the Vanguard, as the Vanguard doesn't do anything else other than Charge.... :P

I would definitely recommend Adept if you're looking for guns and biotics. My favourite rule-legal Adept is one with Stasis and a Viper Sniper Rifle, you end up with similar gameplay to Thane but you can still handle the big stuff.

I was kinda wary of Vanguard's in-your-face fighting style, but when I tried it; I just loved it. Charge is an awesome skill. There are some good videos on YouTube with people just tearing up the place with a vanguard.

Well, put your foot down and make time! :bandit:

Joking aside, there are tons of awesome videos on youtube, for Adepts you can start here: The Power of the Adept

For Engineers: Shotgun Engineers, who loves em?

Go with Vanguard and hit them with the good stuff
