Hi There

Looks like another 'no sound' thread!

I purchased Mass Effect for PC via Steam just yesterday and there is no sound whatsoever. Every other application/ game works fine.

I should also add that I had the same issue with the Steam Dragon Age II demo I played before downlaoding this.

My PC spec:

Windows XP (SP2)
ASUS M2N4 SLi - 2gb RAM
AMD X2 6000+
MSI GTS 450 OC 1gb GDDR5 (DX9 installed for Mass Effect)

External sound card: MOTU 828MKII with stereo monitor speakers

Things I've tried:

- Changing audio setting to Software/ Hardware in game AND in ME setup config, then restarting game.

- Went in to .ini file and changed Max available channels to '62' from '64'

Please help a potential ME convert realise his dream

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Sound works but I have to run windows media player as I load the game, then exit WMP once it has loaded.

Usually this indicates a problem with mixing the sound buffers. Having another program that uses the audio probably kicks ME over to using the secondary buffer instead. This probably indicates some incompatibility with the sound driver. Have you tried updating it?
