i never did good with 2 rogues and i never liked using them except for picking locks, but in this game i will probably use either 2 warriors or mages depending on the characters set up.

I'm always keeping Anders and Merrill with me when possible on my first playthrough, but I'm conflicted. I was actually wondering if you guys had any opinions, should I go with

Aveline/Dual Wield Rogue Hawke
or
Varric/2h Tank Hawke

Will likely be my first playthrough. Varric/Isabela however are switchable, as are Bethany/Merill though I think I'll stick with Bethany for the family tie. Will be doing several playthroughs; about the only think that may stay the same is Fenris as my main 2H Warrior.

Male Mage Hawke (Blood Mage/Force Mage) (damage, CCC)

Fenris (because he's awesome)

Carver sets up stagger combos, but other than that, the other 2 slots can change from time to time, depending on the mission. Not necessarily story-based, but just whoever I feel like bringing. I will try to get around using Anders all the time for healing, if that's possible. If not... Anders get's Fenris's slot...

Bethany, mostly attack mage, can heal in a pinch
Aveline, warrior tank

Another playthrough:
Female Hawke mage, mostly attack but can heal, LI = Anders again or Fenris
Anders, primary healer
Sebastian, rogue archer
Carver or Fenris warrior tank, depending on who I like better and whether Fenris is an LI, maybe swap them out

Another playthrough:
Male Hawke warrior templar tank w/ Isabela LI
Isabela, rogue duelist (want to see if I can lean her to assassin)
Anders, primary healer
Bethany, attack mage who can also heal

I reserve the right to change my mind but at the moment this covers every class I want to play and every companion I want to have. I'm not crazy about Varric or Merrill. The class I will always have 2 of is mage because of the heal and potion (or poultice) cooldown so I can have a backup when the main mage (and my favorite character, Anders) can't heal someone. I don't see any other scenario working for me with this change.

Same here except that I will keep isabela and am undecided between Merill and Anders.

Tough one. I think my choices will depend on how the different characters are written and thus how they fit into my thoughts on my first Hawke playthrough.

I know that I will start out by playing a 2-handed warrior (female).

Right I am thinking:
Bethany = always
Aveline / Fenris = depending on how much a SnS warrior is needed on normal mode.
Varric / Sebastion / Isabella = depending on their character and type of quest I'm going on

LadyHawke as a dps mage.
Anders as a healing/support mage.
Fenris or Carver as a 2hander tank.
Probably Varric as my rogue.. very maybe Isabela. However, due to the type of story telling, I feel kind of obliged to take Varric around places.. atleast on my first play through.

Second playthrough will be
Male Hawke as a 2hand warrior dps
Avelin as a tank
Undecided Mage as healer. (Siiigh.. This is my chantry devoted character, and I have the choice between an illegal apostate sister, a dalish elf who seems to summon demons.. or an abomination. ¬_¬. That's seriously my only complaint so far with Dragon Age 2, the lack of character variety. They all seem to either be neutral or hate the Chantry, with the exception of Avelin and Carver(who will obviously be dead in this play through) )
Toggle between Isabela and Seb as my rogue.
