What weapon proficiencies do you consider it would be best for a Cavalier? I do not have an extensive knowledge of BG2 as I have with the original, however I did noticed Carsomyr in my previous run and it was impressive in the hands of Keldorn. So I suppose I'll be having **two handed swords **two handed style, probably **axes because I saw there is a decent selection in the beginning and a source of ranged damage as well. I am aware I'm also in need of some blunt damage. Are staves a good pick? I will dragg Minsc with me so I was thinking he could dual-wield FoTA and something else unless you could advise me otherwise.  What would you choose?

All your choices seem good. Another option would be war hammers, since assembling Crom Fayr out of 4 components - many found in the underdark - gives you a weapon which raises your strength to 25.

I like the Silver Sword for Minsc since he already has ** in Two Handed.

Axes are good for your Cav as is Katana, but only for Celestial Fury.

A cavalier has to wield Carsomyr- as you might be able to tell by my nick, I'm quite the fan of this weapon. I also like the fact you can get Lilarcor quite early. I usually don't take the Silver Sword when using a paladin for RP reasons (a LG character surely has to return it to the gith...). So yeah, 2H swords as the main weapon all the way. For the odd bit of golem bashing I do take a point or two in warhammers. Axes and katanas I leave to my other party members.

For your choice of blunt weapon, I suggest flails. The flail of ages is fantastic and the defender of Easthaven, which can be bought from one of the bonus merchants, is one of the best defensive weapons in the game.

Combine its use with armor of faith and hardiness for good physical damage reistance.

Thank you for the input guys.

Useful_Idiot1@ - I know of that combo, I have use it with a ranger/cleric and I liked it quite a lot, but I was thinking that I'll be using Carsomyr almost exclusively once I can get my hands on it and FoTA is such a great weapon I wouldn't want to see it being wasted as a secondary weapon, I believe it is better if another member of my party, like Minsc for example, would make use of it full time in the above mentioned combo. The reason I was considering staves is that my paladin would have two handed style anyway so I thought it would fit. Anyway I went with hammers for now, because in my chosen party there is no one who could put them to good use. I also invested two pips in axes, mainly for some good troll slaying early on and for the throwing factor. Really, I don't like my character loitering like a dog in heat starving for some action while the rest of my party is 'gunning' down mobs caught in area disabling spells.

Sparky The Barbarian@ - I don't know about the Silver sword, except the vorpal effect doesn't really offer much. The way I see it, a dual wielding combo would grant more benefits.

Edit: HolyAvenger@ - regarding the silver sword going back to its former owners, I think it's debatable. Aren't Giths suppoesedly evil? If that's the case would a paladin truly give a powerful weapon back in some foul hands. He would probably make sure it remains disassembled.

I'm a bit weak on my DnD fluff but some googling says you're right...yes OK, in which case I'd keep the Silver Sword out of gith hands too.

Consider the other pally weapon i.e. Bastard sword allows the use of a shield… give the Holy-Avenger to Haer'Dalis, (with use any item and offensive spin) he will out damage you.
In the early game a mage can conjure you up +3 (Axe, long-sword, short-sword or mace) weapons. :wizard:
