i mean i can sort of see it happen if you play a caster really really well, but anything else?
my arcane warrior who is in pretty much the best gear obtainable (at least in origins) gets spanked if theres an elite mob in the group
how is a rogue or a warrior going to do something like the deserted blood mage building?
O_O
how is a solo nightmare run even possible?

I do Nightmare runs with warriors and rogues. I have a problem trying to use mages however. Oh well, I can't be good with everything I suppose.

Warrior is tough; perhaps the toughest, and maybe the dullest. But Rogue solo shines in its versatility and ability to adapt to the occasion. Add a single Poison slot, and you have grenades and weapon venom, if desired. Stealth and Deft Hands allows you to clear rooms as desired, not to mention choosing the place of your next encounter.

There are several threads with tips on soloing nightmare, including this one , which has links to others. Now, I've only solo'd with the help of all the DLC goodies, which make a huge difference - Vestments of the Seer, the Battledress, the Cinch, 300+ gp from selling the cudgel, etc.. I tip my hat to those who've done it the old-fashioned way. Some day I'll give that a try. A dw rogue is actually a very good choice for a first try. Great dps and combat stealth as an escape hatch. Build one pair of daggers for maximum spell resistance and another for maximum damage. Mages also work well, even without AW protection. Warriors are the most challenging, though my S&S was a lot easier than my two hander.

AW is the best spec there is, no reason not to get it regardless of soloing.

What a lot of people don't get is that AW mage needs a LONG run up before it becomes god like.
For my money SS works best as a solo but any class can do it with a bit of luck/ planing.

yes but you go with the flow on the bugged out SS. I would play an SS if it wasn't broken to begin with and if I could mod it. (ps3=n0 m0d for j00)

What is bugged in SS?

Nothing is bugged with SS. It is just that people ASSUME the build should only need to pump magic in order to make the forms powerful. The problem is that would make an already powerful build into a "I WIN" with out trying build.
If you want a powerful casting SS pump magic and if you want your bear to be able to tank (do melee damage) then pump STR... both builds work well.
Back on topic; any build (except maybe a SH) can solo the game with a bit of luck and a plan.

Dont know what your doing wrong then, solo Nightmare is pretty easy. easiest with a Arcane Warrior even.
As for SS (Shapeshifter) the solo build is pretty much a all Str build, or if you can make it SS/AW pure magic. SuicidalBaby try the all Str SS build sometime. It works really well in Origins but is terrible in Awakening due to them changing the mechanic a bit it seems.

hehe looking back this thread is a bit silly now
i made a rogue to solo nightmare and even though everything up to and including ostagar made me want to kill myself, everything after is so easy (that i ve done so far) that i just autoattack stuff and go make a cup of coffee
feels good man

I've started a few party playthroughs since I began soloing but I can't stay interested in them. Too easy and annoying when a companion does something stupid - well, when the AI has a companion do something stupid.
