do most people have one set party that they take with them? I usually just take different people to see what each one of them is all about.

Fenris, Bethany/Anders, Carver/Aveline, Varric/Sebastian.
It depends on what class I play.

Fenris as defensively spec'd as possible to tank (he'll probably be min/maxed as all my tanks are)
Anders as my healer with heavy crowd control
Mage Hawke as a heavy AoE dps with heavy defensive magic and light cc
Isabella with cc and melee dps + utility

As you can see, I have A LOT of cc which should be enough to keep large amount of mobs at bay and to also prevent as much damage as possible.

I usually stick to one party so that I know how to use each party member perfectly and gear them up to my fullest ability. Plus, I get used to the characters personality too easily...lol

Though as at least one rogue is more or less required in a party to pick locks and disarm traps for the extra exp and money, I may have to fill the tank role myself and swap Aveline for one of the rogues. <_<

I'll be taking Varric as the straight up dps rogue with my Hawke taking all the non combat talents like lockpicking and traps if they're still in the game, Bethany as the mage with some o **** heals and as the fourth I have no idea, one of the warriors so they can tank, but on normal I doubt you need a tank for everything except the big bosses and even then might not need one.
