So I'm a consol gamer, (with the exception of some casual WoW time) and the fact that I can't get ME to start is causing me undue amounts of stress.

I've gone through all the troubleshooting on the help site, but the problem isn't fixed.

The problem:

When I open the program and click "play" it blacks my screen like it's loading, and then crashes. What should I do to fix it?

Ok I ran the patch, but the problem still exists. Exact same thing. Load, black screen, crash. :(

Can you provide your system specs? Only playing some casual WoW leads me to believe that your problem may be hardware-related.

I'm not sure what all you need, so I'm just going to type what I found under my Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System
Tell me if there's somewhere else I should look?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720
Processor is Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB
System type: 32-bit Operating System

Edit: And honestly, I don't even WoW on the PC anymore--I play it on my Mac. I just know it runs on the PC because I started there. I'm practically PC illiterate, so I'm sorry if you guys have to walk me through this a little.

That has an intel on board graphics chip doesnt it? Unfortunately those are not officially supported and may not be able to run the game at all.

To confirm, hit CTRL + R, and type "dxdiag" in the window that comes up (and press enter). This will open the DirectX diagnostic utility. Click the Display tab and see what the name of your video card is. If it's Intel HD Graphics, or pretty much anything Intel, that is indeed the problem.
