Mass effect 3 will come out on top, ME2 is in every top 5 you can find, console or PC.

I'm loling at anyone that thinks anything is going to beat out the granddaddy of sandbox open world games this year for rpg of the year. :P

But, hey, they could screw it up royally. Anything's possible, but if this was Vegas, the incredibly safe money is on Skyrim.

Eldar Scrolls

Sandbox

Uggghh, I don't think you know what sandbox means

Ugggh, I don't think you know what it means if you think Oblivion/Skyrim is anything other than sandbox.  That's exactly why it was so terribly boring for an RPG.

I am picking lower grades. I'm responding to someone claiming that an 88 (or the claimed 8.25) is not RPG of the Year material and we shouldn't expect it. I'm just pointing out that picking out one (or, in my case, eight...) reviews out isn't going to really mean a lot. If I took Destructoid's opinion as the Holy Grail, I'd probably think DAO sucked. But different people have different feelings.

I could take DAO's highest grades (perfect 100s) and say that it definitely should have won GOTY. Neither method is better.

Everyone seems to forget that DA:O DID infact receive bad score

The reviewer that gave DA:O a 64 gave DA2 a 94

Quit getting your panties in a bunch

Console reviewers are giving it higher scores. No surprise with the amount of work they did to cater to that base. PC reviewers are giving it similar or lower scores, again, no surprise, with the amount of work they did to cater to consoles.

It'll still be an enjoyable game, but it's definitely not going to be rpg of the year in a year that has this many solid rpgs coming out. :)

Are you completely ignoring the fact that were in a thread discussing how DA2 got an 8.25/10?

DA2 has, on average, higher scores than DA:O

Multiplayer MMORPGs are persistent online worlds which happen to also be "open world".  That has nothing to do with whether or not Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim are open world -- and since you seem to be entirely confused on what a sandbox game is, that's what open world means.  It's non linear and you're allowed to run around and do whatever you want until you feel like continuing the main part of the story.

If you all haven't heard yet the OP doesn't actually have the review, hence this "8.25" is fake. THE CAKE IS A LIE PEOPLE!

The terms are used interchangeably, but sandbox tends to indicate that your actions has a profound effect on the physical state of the world

Shouldn't there be more reviews out already? The game comes out in North America in somewhat over a day.

Haha.  As long as ME3 doesn't chop off even more RPG elements, I'll have to agree with this.  Then again, both The Witcher 2 and Human Revolution could actually end up being better than expected.  Skyrim will just be the game for those who want to test their new gaming rig.  Hopefully they've implemented enough of the Fallout type elements (not the shooting obviously) that I won't fall asleep after the first thirty hours.

Not really.

GTA is the poster-child for sandbox games and does it have far-reaching consequences that profoundly impact the world?

There is that.  I was mostly talking about my own personal preferences, I wouldn't expect any media source to give the prize to anything but Skyrim. Though I'm not so sure about the mass consumer prefering open ended experiences. Those can be VERY overwhelming, while being tossed around corridors would probably lead to them finding their way more easily.

I would say that they are preferred. They can be overwhelming, but it's also easier to jump in and out. DAO and ME sort of need all of that Codex information for a lot of it to make sense. Same with The Witcher. You don't need to know the first thing about Elder Scrolls or Fallout lore to understand the game and play it. They also sell more, generally.

Of course, ME is becoming more and more of a darling to critics across the internet, so it has a pretty big chance to take GOTY and RPGOTY.

Are you completly ignoring the fact that DA2 isnt even released yet? How can it have higher scores in average without been released? You just cant compare it yet. Next month maybe. Then we can talk about average reviews. And DAO will win.

I'm sure people will try to use the fact that it's not 9 or higher as proof that it sucks - even though 8.25 indicates that it's probably a pretty good game. Oh joy, I can't wait for the deluge of rage, angst, smug self-satisfaction and elitism that's probably about to flood this thread.

Disappointed of the score, kids?
