I have a uniue thing I ran across and now I am confused  I reached the final battle last night and breezed through everything leading up to the battle.  In fact, my tank never really dropped below 75% facing the darkspawn.  So I reach the final boss and the only thing that kept me from defeating it was I ran out of Lyrium for my healer.  So I soon realized it couldn't be done with my current reserves so I started my save right before the Landsmeet.  So I proceed exactly as I did the first time only this time I side with the Queen and win the Landsmeet and make her queen.  So to summarize:  

First time:

Lost Landsmeet
Defeated Loghain and Guards
Dueled Loghain
Didn't side with the queen
Made Alster King
Had Alister kill Loghain

Second:

Won Landsmeet
Dueled Loghain
Had Aister Kill Loghain
Sided with Queen and had her rule

Other than that the entire game was identical.  So I get to the final battle (the second time through after reloading) against the darkspawn and suddenly they are a lot harder than before.  To the point where Alister is dieing a lot and the tank (shale) is needing twice the heals.  I finally get back to the end boss and he destroys me around 50% through.  Is it possible that one of my decisions caused the battle to be harder or maybe Alister being kind have a big impact?  I swear I'm not crazy but it feels like the difficuly ws set to Hard or Nightmare
