This problem started right after i installed the demo and ran it on wine:
The first time I ran it after playing the demo, I noticed that the main menu would only give me the option of starting a new game. The "Load Game"/"Resume" buttons were unclickable, and upon clicking the "Downloadable Content" button, I noticed that absolutely nothing was listed, even though I have all the DLC. I checked My Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age, and everything was intact.
I created a new character and after a lot of searching around, I figured out that DA was storing character files in its packaged contents (specifically DragonAgeOrigins.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Dragon Age/bin_ship/%USERPROFILE%/My Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age). I moved my Character folder over there along with other relevant folders and files, but for some reason it's not recognizing the DLC, even though it now recognizes my old characters
. I've tried messing around with it and even reinstalled my game, but it didn't work. When I reinstall some of my DLC, it just puts it in the old My Documents folder, even though the game just ignores it.
Anyone ran into this problem? I'm getting pretty desperate.
DA not recognizing DLC or mods

Quite weird... Do you have a My Documents folder in your home folder? Try moving it aside in that case... I'd also recommend moving aside that %USERPROFILE% folder, it shouldn't be there. Your savefiles/DLC is supposed to reside in ~/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/
Did you add any symlinks or anything like that before playing the demo?

I'm a bit confused.
You have both (a) the demo running on WINE and (
the full Mac (Cider) version of the game installed at the same time, right? And your problem is with the full version, as the demo doesn't have the .app and the transgaming folder...
So, you played the demo and now you want to use an existing character from the WINE demo for the full (Mac) game? Moving the demo savegames folder from the WINE environment to the ~/Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age folder might do the trick, if they are compatible, and you'll have to clean up your DragonAgeOrigins.app folders like Jhime suggested. There shouldn't be any folder in DragonAgeOrigins.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Dragon Age/bin_ship. In that place there are only a bunch of .dll and daorigins.exe.
As a matter of fact, there shouldn't be any %USERPROFILE% folder inside DragonAgeOrigins.app at all! (the logical place would be Dragon Age Origins.app/Contents/resources/transgaming/C_drive/Documents and Settings/, but I suspect DAO would ignore it, since it reads from your own ~/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age.) So there's no need to put anything inside DragonAgeOrigins.app. Everything you add goes into ~/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age.
I hope I got right what you describe...

Might try the following if you're a Vista user - go to the windows icon and select search. Type in "services" - press continue. A list should come up, browse to Dragon Age Origins content updater. The pane on the left should have the option to restart the service (seems to turn itself off once in a while due to no obivious reason). I've had to do this a couple of times due to DLC not showing correctly and seems to work like a charm. Hope it solves your problem.
