How do I get all theWeapon ugrades?

That was my first play through with that character and I plan to get what I need this time. How can I get all the upgrades, or at least Shotgun and Assault Rifle max damage (with the ammo ugrade). Should I do side missions during the game, will that help me get the upgrades faster and before I beat the game? If I buy upgrades at a store, will that make the upgrade I find in a missions a higher upgrade?

Some upgrades are easy to miss, and others are only available via certain decisions.

I have seen that page, but I wasnt sure if I missed something or not, and if it mattered. Now I know. I'l take a look and be more careful, thanks guys!
They should take something like this out in ME3, it sucks to miss out for good. That really ruins a play through....

Lotsb upgrades ( sixth SG, SR, SMG ) are a bit tricky to get all on Xbox - you must return to liaria after a mission complete screen to "receive delivery". The award is random and it takes a while to get all upgrades. Sometimes you only get minerals. I posted a thread on this a while ago. Will look for link.
It's not just xbox..it's the same for PC too. Save / load until you get the upgrade / save is one way to be sure you get all 4 upgrades.

Though I hear that the game is a bit finicky about how it hands out upgrades - I've even heard a rumour that you only get the weapon upgrades if you do a loyalty/recruitment mission before attempting to get the upgrade on the LotSB ship - N7 ones only give out minerals.
I'm intending to test it on my current playthrough, though I'm taking my time with it at the mo

That's not true. Any mission that ends with "mission completed" screen is good enough to get upgrade. Or you can simply wait 24 hours (real time).
It's totally random, you can even get all upgrades in like 5 minutes on PC. Change system clock (add one day), load until you get upgrade, save - load that save, change system clock, load until you get upgrade..

That's good to know - Mission accomplished screens will be good enough for me. How does the save/reload thing work? Save before going to get the mission, or save before going to get the upgrade after the mission? Or save on the ship just before opening the terminal?

So I save my game right next to the delivery terminal and then keep trying until I get what I want.
I haven't heard anything about having to do certain things to get weapon upgrades. I know I got a weapon upgrade after just starting my game up the next day, having done zero missions in the meantime.

Works like this: After every mission or 24 hours of real time you can pick up a new delivery. But it only chooses what the delivery is at the moment you click the terminal.

Excellent - that means I don't have to do LotSB as early as I was going to and still get all the upgrades

Basically on Xbox you cannot change the date/time because when you connect to xbox live it corrects the date/time. What you have to do is:
(1) Get a mission complete screen
(2) go to shadow broker base
(3) Save
(4) Pick up goods
(5) if its an upgrade you want , then continue, otherwise load save from (3) and try again.
It is totally random. I have received about 8 minerals in a row before getting a weapon upgrade!
I forgot to mention that there is also a sixth AR upgrade. Some of the mineral goods are pretty good ( 40,000 units sometimes ), but you can always get those by other means.

It's actually a seventh upgrade if you choose not save the workers in Zaeed's loyalty mission. Quite insane.
It's not like it actually matters. 4 or 7 upgrades = no difference whatsoever.

Oddly enough I'm doing a playthrough just so one of the characters I want to import has all the prior games upgrades & goodies.

When I play this game, I have to get all the upgrades though. It's part of the fun. Probably shouldn't be but it is.

Meaning that they are really dead with 4 or more upgrades. Its true that the 2nd and 3rd upgrades make the most difference ( because there are extra bonuses unlocked for each weapon type ), but the weapon damage upgrades are taken into account with the close distance calculation ( except sniper rifles ) and AR Rush calculation as well as the weapon multiplier vs defense.

Depending on the class & upgrade there might not be a huge difference between 4 & 7. Right now I can attest that the difference between 1 & 4 is huge though.
Example: With my Vanguard NG+ is a PAIN early on with few upgrades. Later in the game with 4+ upgrades across the board I'm zipping around the level like a nut and the game is VASTLY easier.

Agreed
I always have all upgrades by the end of the game, old habit I guess.

Yes, but if they didn't work (which is entirely possible given the history of other stuff not working as it should etc.), we would not notice that anyway, unless someone did a proper and precise testing. That is very clearly poor design. Upgrade system in ME2 could have been made better by a 13 year old Joe Smith from Alabama.
