When i start up BG1 click single player then click load game my game IMMEDIATLY crashes and shows the error below. (oddly enough the comp will only show my mouse when its on the message)

I have tried installing patches, uninstalling, reinstalling, i copied my saved games from compatibility files back into the \\save file. 

Im running Windows 7 and ive had this kind of issue before that had been resolved. I've tried everything i can find or think of, and i can still run a singleplayer game from scratch however i cannot save or i get the same message shown above execpt 1546. Anyone with any experience or suggestions or w/e please post

Sounds like a portrait issue (message more relevant than line number). Link and text below.

Corrupt portrait bitmap. Go into the directory of the save game that is giving this error and delete all the .bmp files. Load the game and then re-save.

 Ok i tried deleting the portraits like you suggested but nothing changed, should i just delete the entire file?

it looks like this the odd one out i mean.

Wait i fixed it, you have to remove the corrupt thing from the COMPATIBILITY FILES not the plain ol save directory. for anyone else viewing this with a similiar issue here is where you should be looking for the corrupt savegame.

Yeah, should have pointed that possibility out.

W7 (& Vista) use the compatibility area to protect the program file directory. Best option is to change the install directory to something like c:\\games if you ever re-install.

HELLPPP!!!

I'VE RECENTLY PURCHASED BG1 AND IT KEEPS CRASHING WHEN I LOAD A SAVED GAME, I HAVE WINDOWS7 AND HAVENT A CLUE AS TO HOW TO GET IT TO WORK

More details please, Have you done a full install, did you install to the default location or somewhere outside the program files location, will any save game work or is it a particular save. What have you installed (BG or BG + expansion, via cd's (3 disk, 5+1 or 4-in-1 boxset) or GOG). IF 5+1 or 4-in-1 sets have you applied the relevant patch.

Do you get any error message.

Have you installed BG1 in program files (the location the game wants to be installed in). If so, please un-install and re-install the game. And re-install the game in a different location. If you bought it from GOG, the game should be patched. All other versions need to be patched with the relevant patch(es).
