'Remnants Enduring' is a Dragon Age: Origins story taking place after the end of the game. It's a straight ahead adventure story--a little drama, a little humor, a little romance, a bunch of fighting, and PG13-ish all the way. It's illustrated by pictures made with the Dragon Age toolset--2 per chapter--54 pictures in all. This is Part One of the story. Part Two will be up as soon as it's written and illustrated--probably in 8 or 9 months.

Synopsis:

In 'Remnants Enduring', Alistair escaped execution by his fellow claimant to the throne, Anora, and the other surviving Fereldan Warden, Kallian Tabris. He fled to the Free Marches and then to Orlais, where he tried to drown his sorrow, bitterness and anger with brandy. That worked about as well as you'd expect. Now, almost three years after the Landsmeet, it seems he has a chance to regain a sense of purpose and reclaim something of his life, but it's a murky sort of chance, to say the least. And Alistair isn't exactly feeling trusting.

Since the story is illustrated and will be very long by the time part two is completed, I've made a live journal site for it here:

This is a very interesting prologue. I was actually there. The background is more like old England and it feels good. I am there along with Alistair. Delicious, wonderful memories you evoke in me... Alistair, what a wonderful character he is.

I feel more nostalgic now more so than before DA II was out. How I miss my warden and my companions.

You brought him alive: he is a breathng llving soul. Great character development. I feel what her feels; I see what he sees and I see the crowd, I can smell the brew, I can see the armor. Your description is so vivid.

A great prologue. Thank you for the memories. :D

Hmmm... I'll check. You posted in the prologue comment section? I tried to set it up so that people could comment without being on LJ (anonymously), but maybe there's a problem.

Here I am spamming your thread, lol. I have to say this: your writing is lyrical. I am still reading. I will edit this post to add further comments. I had to tell you how my soul is enjoying this. I am a sucker for great writing. :D

Edit:  P.S.   I have a box of tissue next to me.  In between sobs there is laughter, there is a euphoric feeling.... Oh, so nicely done, Errant_Knight.  Posted Image

Yes, I did.  I do not have an account.  Hence, I posted as anonymous, but leaving my BSN nickname so that you know who it was.  :)

Edit: it said that my comment got posted.

Huh.... And you used the 'prologue comments' link at the bottom of the chapter to go to the prologue comments page?

Yes, I did.  Maybe it needs your approval before it gets posted ( I do not know).  If I have to create an account in order to post, I will do so.  Posted Image

Turns out I did have comment screening on inadvertently--good thing you said something!! Fixed now. I'll leave it unscreened unless a troll problem develops.

Lyrical, poetical, a new style of writing!  I really love it!

I have to say that you have given extra life to Alistair.  I love him in Origins.  I think he is charming combined with honor, integrity and a sense of duty.  He is sweet.

What you have given him is the backbone he lacks in Origins.  This is a big plus there.  I love his character in Origins, but wanting to give in too easily to certain situations really irritates me.

I love your Alistair.  I love the life you breathe in him.  He is a true prince now: complete.

You have done such a great job at developing his character adding the extra he needed so he could be the ideal type of a person, of a man.  Now, he is.  You still keep his humanity, his sense of humor and duty.

I have to tell you, that I felt his agony.  I mourned with him.  I felt his betrayal.  It is all so vivid, yet written in a lyrical way.

Wow, Oghren...  he is always the boisterous, wisecracking, swearing (sodding) dude that made him so adorable in Origins.  I love him, lol.  He provides comic relief, yet, also, the voice that Alistair needs in this crisis.

Leliana!  She is always the voice of reason.  Her humanity is alive in your story.  You keep her spirit intact.  Her presence strengthen his resolve.   I really enjoyed reading Anora's letter.

I have to say, while reading the first chapter, tears streamed down my cheeks, I laughed and I was there.  I was not an outsider looking in.  I was a participant.  Thank you so much.  You did a wonderful job.

Brilliant!  Posted Image

P.S. I like the Illustration photos. They strengthened the written text... adding an evocative type of atmosphere.  :)

I've made a couple more pictures with the characters from the story, just for fun. They've been posted in the Alistair thread, but I figured I'd put them here too, since they kind of go along with it.
