Apparently, there's another YouTube user working on giving counter-arguments. Interesting so far.

I can't believe people waste so much time on this. Don't they have anything better to do?

Snotboy is a moron, end of story

For the record, I agree about Smudboy being moronic. I just wanted to see how badly he was going to get pwned.

I can't believe people are wasting their time making vids about how other people think about a game.

Umm I'm still not sure if I liked Smudboy. He made some good points, but was a total ass when someone had a different opinion

I found Smudboy's videos very interesting. Even if I didn't, though, I couldn't see why people would feel the need to insult him personally. Ad hominem arguments should be beneath us.

My only reservation about the vids were that Smudboy pointed out a few things I wished I could un-notice, as sometimes it's easier to blithely play on without seeing inconsistencies.

I'll take a look at the counter-vid when I have time. I'll count myself lucky if it's as pleasant to watch (and if the narrator has such a nice voice to listen to).

Watched it... some nice counter-arguements and he's a pretty nice guy but the video bored me a bit.
If it had music it would've been better. But since he thinks the music creates a hostile/arrogant atmosphere I won't hold my breath for it.

He also has videos of over 50 minutes too. O.o I didn't know this was possible.

^Youtube has no more time limit.

But unlike Youtube partners( 10 GB I think, might be wrong) it's limited to 2 GB.

It was always easy to counter smudboy on most of his arguments. To smudboy, not showing Shepard going to the bathroom was a major plothole.

The problem was that he quickly became rude and insulting. He also never gave the slightest bit of ground on anything and would argue the most minor point for days. The old posters debating him would give up trying to talk with him and new posters would join in and own his argument in new ways. Then he'd insult and rave at them and the cycle continued. It was kind of entertaining once you realized what was happening.

Not once did Smudboy state that that was a plothole and shows how little regard you have for truth. While Smud certainly argued over, in my opinion, some points that were not worth it in most cases the arguements used to counter his tended to be based on personal attacks rather than anything found within the game. I also did not like how he broke things down point by point to dissect someone's post since that always ended up making walls of text but really IF you ever read his posts the point that should have come out from them is for you to have had a much better idea of why you agreed/disagreeded with the topic under discussion. The most virulent attackers of Smud seemed not to be able to think for themselves and thus ended up using personal attacks. Unfortunately Smud seemed unable to resist firing back in the same vein thus his lack of presence on these forums.

He did point out some things tough. Like the timeline between investigations of Sarens activity in ME1 doesn't match up, or how Shepard didn't really ahve any evidence to show(suit recordings) regarding the reapers. And one of the most famous one is the discrepency between the hugo gersback mission in ME2, where the survivors had mechs, tough mechs werent supposed to be in use 10 years ago, not to mention heat sinks.

True, but have you tried to argue with him about a nuance of his argument that was wrong? You want to bash your head against the wall, because he is so stubborn. You give him an inch, he takes a mile.

Relax champ, that was a joke about the bathroom - however, he was pretty close to that level of nitpicking. And people debated smudboy many, many times trying to just stick to the facts. Smudboy always dragged it down into the mud.

Yes, smudboy was good at trying to overwhelm his debating opponents with walls of text. And yes, people did take potshots at him, simply because his tactics were so frustrating. However, many also did try to debate him and when they showed flaws in his argument, he either simply ignored him or launched personal attacks.

I thought some of his points were interesting, but I feel he also spends more time arguing against the elitism/tone of Smudboy than he does against his actual arguments. Just my two cents.

Ooh, YouTube wars! My favorite!

Yeah, Smudboy makes some good points and no doubt worked very hard to present his case, but he's still a bit of a jerk. He could at least try to be humorous about it, but he seems to think he's some sort of scholar on the matter. I approve of in-depth critiques, but not poor presentation. People would give him more credit if he dropped the snobby tone and treated the matter more lightheartedly.  And if he was curteous to people who disagreed.  Yeah, it's hard to be nice to raging fanboys, but they'll cool off if they realize you're not out to insult them.

When it comes to a video debate, presentation is just as important as content.  Nobody cares if you have a crushingly unbeatable argument if you're an ass.  Conversely, you could be a master of charisma, but eventually someone who has the facts straight will come along and kick your sorry behind.

EDIT BECAUSE I FINISHED WATCHING IT:  His arguments get a bit shaky at points, but generally they're decent.  He tried too hard to be funny in the beginning, which was annoying, but not as horrible as Smudboy's godawful music.

i liked smudboy's arguments, he might've voiced it in a slightly "elitist" tone, but it was constructive criticism all around and backed up by a lot more than most people would bother backing their arguments up with
