All right, so I bought Mass Effect on PC on Steam because I finally wanted to get into the series. And before getting the second game, I wanted a playthrough with the first.
This issue, is that during gameplay, or sometimes even cutscenes, my monitor suddenly blacks out and it appears to look like it's in sleep mode. It just says "NO INPUT SIGNAL." I try moving the mouse around and clicking and whatnot, but it doesn't respond. My monitor stays like this and I'm forced to shut the computer down.
It has kept me saving constanly at every point in the game. I have gotten to the final boss fight last night, and after beating him, the cutscene goes on for about 3 seconds before the issue occurs again. This time however, it always happens at that exact same point. I don't just happen to get "lucky" and have it not happen, it's been happening at that point after beating the boss every time.
I just wanted to beat the game, so I decided to lower all my graphics settings just to see if that would work.
Nope. Still did it at the same point. No other game does this, and I'm sure enough that my computer can handle this game.

It seems to me this might be video card problem or more likely power supply problem. Problems with power supplies are very often. So, try to borrow somewhere another, better power supply and try it. Maybe that's it. The second in line might be videocard itself, but before that, make sure you're using latest drivers.

While doing that, get a thermal monitoring utility that covers the GPU particularly, and see how hot it is getting while playing. Don't waste time making comparisons to any non-UT3 games.
