I just installed this, after stalling for months. It really is an astonishing piece of work. I haven't had a chance to see if it works yet, but objectively it probably has as good a chance as some of the installs I have laboriously constructed by installing everything manually.

I was surprised by several things about this mod. Firstly, the sheer volume of downloads. 3.5 Gb in total, which on my internet connection took an entire day to get. Secondly, the level of automation, which is huge. It automatically downloads around 100 mods, reports the ones that failed outright, extracts the ones that didn't, again reports the ones that were inexplicably zero-length, evaluates the rest and reports any conflicts, you make some elementary choices, and it finally installs everything. Unbelievable.

Here it is: [link]http://www.shsforums...oads&showcat=72[/link]

OK it's almost time for some serious raving about this mod. I got as far as Beregost, picked up Kivan, and smoke completely failed to pour out of my laptop. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's a bit easier than vanilla, I even checked that SCS & SCS2 were actually installed, but there they were, so who am I to complain if some knobgoblins failed to kill my level 1 party. Having a wolf certainly helps, but then so would a sorceror's familiar.

I will rave about the install options a bit more. It basically asks if you want 1) a standard install, 2) a tactical challenge, or 3) every mod and dog, crash to desktop guaranteed. This is brilliant. Left to my own devices I spend 6 hours obsessively reading every option in SCS2 and the G3 tweakpack, when I'd really rather be playing. Vive le outsourcing!

I dislike it. I got fail to install some mods, and not the same mods on each bwp-setup (except ashes of embers, that one miss two times in a row). And is not total updated, some mods using old versions.

But still... i've done all by my hands and the result wasn't so good (some retarded hard fightings, some retarded easy fightings, some enemies dont attack/move [some cooper coronet guards, some undead archers, fanatics trying to burn viconia; and i think much more to come cuz im not long in the quests so far], some weapons duplicated [balduran shield/cloak in different sellers -.-], some overpowered items too soon). For the bwp-install i didnt get that enemies frozen at least.

Actually i'm playing this, cuz im tired of realoading full installations (took a day/18-20hs to do something like reading all that bwp-pdf document and choosing components/mods and extracting/installing it by the hands). And thinking about full new installation, only with critical fixes/tweaks, some npcs and some tactical encounters =].

Resuming, i got 2 months full of frustrations 'toying' with a lot of mods and that bwp, probably most for my guilty. Got my suspicion about win7 and antivirus running with installations... anyway.

Cheers and hope u get better experience with bwp then i do

It's an amazing piece of work. You can now easily select/deselect almost any single component of BWP. Ran into one or two small bugs during my latest Tactics playthrough, but i only had one serious issue that i had to solve using the console.
Oh, never run antivirus or antispyware during installation (the BWP manual specifically tells you not to).

Ok, i have the standard version of BWP installed and i just reached the Cloakwood mines map and beat some arch druid in a tough battle.

On this quest going up against the shadow druids i have found some very powerful items for Jaheria. A ring of fire shielding called " Charvirak's Glow" and some special leather armor named Stormcloud "Kraken's Bane"

She's now running around with a -10 AC and that seems REALLY low to me.

This is my first time playing the BG series, so i don't know if this is that normal for these games compared to real d&d. I used to play some p&p D&D way back in the 80's, and would never even come close to such a # such as that.

I don't know if this is a BWP related issue or not, but i'm worried that the game might get too easy and that the balance would be upset.

I wanted to install the BWP even though it was my first time playing because i wanted to have the biggest BG world to play through since i probably won't be doing any 2nd runs any time soon. ( I'm new to pc gaming and have alot of crpgs to experience after this one, Planescape, Fallout 1&2, Icewind Dale 1&2, Arcanum, KOTOR 1&2, TOEE, Vampire:Bloodlines, Mask of the Betrayer and NWN1&2 modules for mp purposes, Possibly Wizardry 7&8 , maybe an Ultima game or 2, you get the picture.

I wouldn't worry about it getting too easy, although by the time you hit cloakwood you should know this. The crucial thing though, is to get through BG1 and do BG2, which I think is a better game. If you feel you're losing interest, ignore the BG1 sidequests and head for BG2.

No, i'm totally enjoying it. I like the exploration and low level D&D that BG1 provides. That -10 AC just scared me. Isn't that extremely low ?

I'm looking through my old school AD&D monster Manuals and Fiend Folio and ONE friggin monster equals that, Primus. And my 4th or 5th level druid is walking around with that ???

I know this is a video game and not p&p D&D, but isn't it supposed to be based on that ? Seems very strange to me.

Yes, that's very low for BG1, especially for Jaheira. Without potions, a regular fighter will propably be able to reach -9 ac in the vanilla game at the end and with perfect equipment. I don't know if the big world offers some challenges that equal the additional power you obviously seem to get, but hopefully it does.

You will notice, though, that in the Baldur's Gate series, characters and equipment tend to be more powerful than they will usually be able to get in P&P.
However, AC will become secondary in the later stages of BG2. I wouldn't worry about the game getting too easy right now.

Both the ring and the armour are mod added - a druid won't get near -10 in the vanilla game.  Some of the mods available do unbalance the game in that the mod encounters provide major challenges, but the equipment gained from these encounters makes the rest of the game too easy.  However, I suspect that on your first playthrough even 'easy' challenges may catch you out through not knowing what to expect.  Anyway, if you're enjoying it at the moment, just keep goingPosted Image.

Keeping in mind that you can accomplish in a few hours in BG1 what might be several sessions of a pen-and-paper game, the item vs. party progression in the vanilla game is still about as close as you get to PnP for a computer game IMO. The fact that you spend so much of BG1 being "weak" used to be one of the more common complaints about the game, and I suspect is the impetus for mods that do hand out a lot of overpowered items.

Of course, even in the vanilla game experienced players will take advantage of the AI/pathing to defeat tougher foes than they are expected to given their level. In one case it's particularly ridiculous. Although I leave the guy alone now out of principle, most people expect that because you *can* use exploits or overpowered modded items/abilities to defeat him, that you will do so.

The other thing to note is that they needed to populate the world with enough magic items that somebody new to the game would come across enough of them during the course of their journey so that beating the game would not be too difficult. The consequence is that somebody who has a lot of experience with the game or is using walkthroughs will get their hands on too many magic items, such that for an experienced player their six-person party will be better equipped than a PnP six-person party, even in the vanilla game (assuming one's DM is not in the habit of handing out +1 and +2 items like candy also).

IMO vanilla BG2 deviates far more from PnP as far as the dispersal of powerful items, though of course few people play PnP campaigns where characters are walking around at 15th-plus level anyway. On the other hand, I've come across a number of people who think BG2 is set up more like the way they play their PnP games -- as for as the modularity I guess -- compared to BG1's more open game world.

Even though i mentioned that i was new to pc gaming, i meant in terms of owning one.   I used to play some of the early Ultimas and gold box games like Pool of Radiance back in the 80's at my friends house all the time and D&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun was my favorite game on the Genesis, lol.   So even though they weren't Rtwp,  i'm actually pretty comfortable tactical combat and the early edition d&d rules.  Plus i'm pausing it constantly and really micro-managing the combat so i have control over everything that's going on.

Thanks ppl ,for the replies, i think i'm gonna sell off those items that i found for Jaheira.    As far as weapons go, i haven't come across to crazy it seems.     Only Minsc and Kivian have +2 weapons, and i barley use Kivians +2 spear because i always have him at a distance using his bow anyways.
