Some people just like to choose what armor to put on what characters.

Of course it adds more work for the developers and most of the fans don't mind, so F it.

If you ever kept Morrigan in her default robes or the upgraded version of them, or put Alistair in Warden armor because he's a Warden, or Oghren in the Legion of the Dead armor because he's a dwarf...

Guilty as well. Who cares about stats, they are only companions. At least that's how I played them.

I enjoyed being able to customize gear. There was some real cool mods that were made.Gee wonder if there will be DLC with different armor.

I cared, but I worked around them.  Having the characters look unique and interesting and in-character for them just took priority for me, however.

Probably.  And if it looks awesome I may buy it.  I would have been willing to pay for some of the mods that got released too (like the weapon appearance replacer, for example).

That being said, I didn't buy any of the ME2 packs because they were ugly and obsessed with faux-futuristic eyewear.

Wait for toolset and mod. Maybe we can fix this. Fully covered female companions in my games bored me because they look like chantry nun.

Same here. I kinda dislike a party where all the characters look "the same". But then again, I can't make the characters "cool" if developers have messed up with the appearances. Which sucks too. So as long as there is some alternative clothings, I'm happy with this too.

This is a joke, isn't it?

No.

Isn't it part of an RPG to find/buy better equipment for the party?

No.

This isn't exactly news, but whatever. I'm sure there are still people who don't know about it.

I don't mind. I never much liked the shuffling whenever I found new armor. ("Oh, my MC has a better one... now let's see about all the other companions with similar stats." Ten minutes later. "Oh, another armor. Here we go again.") I know, I know, I'm probably not a "classic RPG fan" or something. I don't know about other people, but in most games, I've only really paid attention to my MC's equipment anyway and gave the other characters hand-me-downs and random armor I found. In short, I won't be missing that feature.

It seems to me that the only way to solve bioware wanting to appeal to a mass audience and not disappointing true fans of the genre is to have a RPG lite mode. Have a mode you can turn on where it would take away all the fun stuff like customizing armour, micro-managing companions, dialog options, side quests etc. That way people who want to play god of war can, and people who don't want their game dumbed down will be happy.

I don't think I have read anywhere on these forums about people who said "OMG there is just too much armour in DAO, I just hate picking gear for my companions". But I have read endless amounts of complaints about the lack of armour in ME2, and it seems like people are disappointed with the perceived simplification of DA2. One of my favorite aspects of RPGs is collecting unique gear and outfitting my party accordingly.

Meh, we can still put in runes and stuff in our companion's armor so it's not like we lose all the customization of gear. We just lose the ability to change how they look in gear.

I think both you and the reviewer who praised this as simply an inventory change are missing the point.

If I'm in favor of the change it's not because I disliked customizing armor or found it too difficult, but it's because I think gear unique to companions is more interesting and more evocative of the character is better than being able to swap between inherently generic custom gear like DAO.

That's why I disagree with that review. It's not "better" because it's "easier" and thus requiring "RPG lite." It's better because it's informs on and draws from character. It's not Gray Pants +1 vs. Brown Pants +2, but Fenris' pants.  That's what the tradeoff is really about.

This change isn't that big of a deal to me, but I don't want DA to end up like ME2 with no armour or weapons to speak of.

"3. Inventory Management Is Better
Your allies in Dragon Age II each have a set of armor that they wear all the time. This means that you can’t equip them with the helmets, boots, and gauntlets that you find in your quest. This may sound disappointing at first, but it results in you spending much less time in the menus sizing up and optimizing equipment. If you pick up a new suit of armor that isn’t an improvement for Hawke, you can just sell it; no need to look at all of your active and inactive party members to see if it’s better for them. Plus, you can still outfit your companions with rings, amulets, and belts, so the customization isn’t gone completely. Your inventory will be less cramped, especially since you get a storage chest early on and you aren’t carrying around crafting reagents all the time. "

"Inventory Management is Better"

The **** it is.  A more accurate phrase would be "Inventory Management now makes it even easier for you to ignore enerything but your killcount.  This one's for you, console shooter players!"

Pet peeve:  ME2 has more weapons than ME1.  ME1 has one weapon for each slot with progressive upgrades disguised as new weapons.

ME1:  Same weapon, new weapons are linear upgrades of same weapon to provide element of gear progression.  ME1 style upgrades served as the closest thing to changing actual weapon playstyles.
ME2:  Different weapons, upgrades (through the Research terminal) provide linear upgrades of entire weapon classes to provide element of gear progression.

Where ME2 failed - and ME1 succeeded - was the GUI, it didn't do a good job expressing the differences between weapons in a way all players could understand, and you really had to try them out to get a feel for how they were different from each other.

I think that there is more to it's just having a specific outfit. It's about companions being able to have different bodies. Think ME2 Miranda and Jack. Two females with very different bodies. Think back to DAO. My female rouge and Leli had the same bodymodel. I believe this is done so that there won't be one guy-body and one girl-body that you put different clothes on. I think that Isabella has a different body from F!Hawke and Bethany but I'm not sure. Merril is different. If you like companions looking different bodywise then this is good. I like this change. In DAO I always switched around gear but if I can get companions and Hawke to have different bodymodels I prefer that to gear switching.

Looks like they listened to what people were saying about not enough models of armor/gear in DA:O and the solution was: lets remove it from the game , i also bet they asked ME2 team how to remove more RPG elements from the game. ME3 & next DA game will be like halo; one suit with only few pre-selected weapons that you'll find on the ground so it will be even more main streamed and they will add mutiplayer with a laughable single player campaign to grab even more FPS/hack & slash broader audience to sell more copies while pooping on people that are long timer fans who bought games from Bioware and permitted them to be where they are (i bought each of them exept Shattered Steel and bought them when they came out not from the: here we almost give you those games bin) , i smell EA's taint getting worse with time passing by

I bought all those games Forsakerr, and I'm capable of following their logic better than you can - it seems. Must be unrelated to previous Bioware game purchases, then.
